I have been working at TJX Canada full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Flexible schedule
    - Good deal on merchandise if you like shopping

    Cons

    - Prices and discounts can be vary from store to store which confuses customers and then bring to angry customers.
    - Very small employee's discount
    - Way too many angry customers and fraudulents which is depressing to see it everyday
    - Too many turnovers for sales associates. It's hard to get promoted to other positions because you're can't keep someone to replace your position. You're kind of ended up training new associate all the time.
    - Misleading. This one is for me personally and I'm very disappointed.

    Pros

As a Merchandising Assistant there was a lot of ownership of your business: you contacted your vendors, you analyzed reporting (if you wanted to) and you wrote all of your won POs

    Cons

The Merchandising Assistant/Operations role is not a true pipeline to becoming a buyer it is more administrative than anything. To become a buyer you have to get into the PASE program and it is very competitive. I have watched people where were MAs for 4/5 years get repeatedly rejected for the program. How can someone who has successfully worked for you for 5 years not be qualified to move up? Then they would recruit for the PASE program 22 years olds fresh out of school with business degrees. Those who chose to leave (after not getting into PASE) were often able to get Assistant Buyer roles at other companies and get on the buying career track because of the amount/quality of experience they had as MAs at TJX

    Advice to Management

Create a true pipeline for those who want to become buyers and consider renaming "Merchandising Assistant/Operation" - it isn't an adequate representation of the role and it isn't competitive in the marketplace

I have been working at TJX Canada part-time

    Pros

the job is easy and not too hard physically, its nice to have a lot of coworkers as well because it makes the job more enjoyable

    Cons

the hours that they give you can be very minimal sometime. Especially if you are a part time associate. Full time associates don't even get a full 40 hours a week.

    Advice to Management

They should stop hiring more employees especially when the existing ones do not get hours. They should keep less employees and provide them with better hours.

    Pros

Benefits & guaranteed hours...great people to work with.

    Cons

Work your butt off for $1 more then sales associates but with a ton more stress and responsibilities.

Make a mistake and you don't get a second chance. No warning..no chance to answer for yourself...just terminated.
