I worked at TJX Companies as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

No, pros, I didn't even get a discount at any TJX locations.

    Cons

I was hired as an intern through a recruiting company and was labeled as a contractor even though I was interning for TJX. As an intern, I was completely undervalued, and was doing work way below my education level. I was treated horribly by the staff, and there was zero communication between myself and this department. As a contractor I did not even get a discount! There were absolutely no perks to working as this "HR" intern, I would not recommend it to anyone, save yourself.

    Advice to Management

Give this contractor HR internship to less qualified people!

I worked at TJX Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance. Nice work environment and decent cafeteria. I have met and worked with some great people. I love the atmosphere of giving back during the Holidays and the different theme of events that are run throughout the year.

    Cons

Zero transparency and lots of dishonesty! Expectations are not always clear and Managers are often too busy to spend any time with you. Contractors are not treated well. Lack of good management and if you happen upon the wrong Manager, you can kiss your career there goodbye. Some Managers have way too much power, while others have none. Chances of getting hired from a Contractor role are very slim. Worst place I have ever worked and I have a long work history with no issues anywhere else. Working at TJX is like working in the Wild West.

    Advice to Management

Treat your contractors better and train your Managers to have some human skills. Managers should know how to treat their subordinates and know how to "Manage". Your employees are only going to be as good as they are treated.

I worked at TJX Companies full-time

    Pros

Insurance is very good. But don't pay for long term disability. I lost my house due to them not paying me for months. Then had to pay it back to insurance company????

    Cons

You work like an animal. It's frowned apon if you take your hour lunch.

    Advice to Management

The company is very clicky. You can't voice your opinion W/O repuction. The bullying is out of control. Customer care is just a punch line. Change needs to start at the top. To many old timers that have no clue what customer service is.

I worked at TJX Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are some departments and select managers who know how to manage individuals and their teams. These folks are great, but unfortunately not part of the norm, especially if they have been long-time TJX employees.

    Cons

The IT organization needs to grow up. Quite possibly one of the most immature and inefficient IT organizations I have ever been a part of in over 20 years. This includes start-ups, world renown financial services firms, and boutique cutting edge science technology. It seems as if the primary objective of senior management is to protect their bonuses and jobs and not really deliver anything of value to the business. I have been part of and seen project teams working on new initiatives and enhancements that spin for years without ever getting completed and/or implemented. If you are the type of person who likes to keep your mouth completely shut and listen to incompetent fools for senior management who could not possibly find employment outside this "discount" IT operations than I suggest you work in IT at TJX. If you are the type of person who strives to be "retired in place" then I suggest working in Merchandising, or Stores, or Supply Chain IT. If you are the type of person who will wake up one day when your life's sun is about to set and think "wow that was an amazingly awful way to spend my life", then take a look at the offices in Marlboro, MA and suit up for the time of your life. It's funny, "most men do lead lives of quite desperation", but working at TJX takes this concept to a whole new level.

    Advice to Management

Find, hire, retain the most competent associates you can for the positions and hand and management them with integrity and respect.
