I worked at TJX Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Even though the discount wasn't much, it was still nice to have

    Cons

Very low pay for the work you do, long hours, no appreciation. It probably depends on the department you are in - I was in corporate finance. I took a pay cut to work here and it was so not worth it.

    Advice to Management

    Pay market rate salaries

I worked at TJX Companies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - work life balance (9-5 on the dot)
    - great (lower level) team camaraderie
    - cafeteria on site with decent prices
    - opportunity to make business contacts

    Cons

    - terrible advancement opportunities. unless you're "in the club", don't expect a promotion.
    - management by committee. EVERYONE has a say in EVERYthing, making it extremely difficult to ever get things done or change things that aren't working.
    - surprisingly not open to opinions. they tout "open door policies", but if you say something other than the approved opinion... look out.
    - advancement for men seemed much more likely than for women, sadly

    Advice to Management

the open door policy that is discussed when hired is great! however, I never found that to be the actual case. It's important for high level managers to be open to others' opinions and suggestions on change & improvements. there is no reason to hire management from outside the company if that person cannot ever influence positive change. it was extremely difficult to manage & mentor my team when it was well deserved, since everything was dependent on "up the ladder" decisions, including when they could get raises/promotions/etc. this makes it very difficult and disheartening to manage your own team members.

    Cons

Dangerous, lots of speed and rushing around metal when receiving.

    "Dependent on manager"

I worked at TJX Companies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a secure job... you'll never actually be fired.. they'll just never promote you until you quit.

    Cons

Your experience here is fully dependent on your manager. If your manager likes you, you're all set and if he/she doesn't, you're screwed. Some people are promoted within 2 month, some people aren't even promoted after a year. It's the luck of the draw.

    Cons

Terrible management. Some of these people have no business managing. Promotions based on who plays the game and gets along with managers the best. It's like being in High school

I have been working at TJX Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Financially solid - some genuinely nice people work at TJX.

    Cons

Nice people are not necessarily capable or talented. Lots of mediocre talent who dont know they are because they have been there so long it is all they know. Some people manage through fear and gossip so people are pitted against each other. Horrible vacation policy and low 401(k) match.

    Advice to Management

Stop being afraid of change. Your unwilingness to try new things says alot about your fear and insecurity.

    Pros

You may buy things that No one had touched yet and get a discount. Double sometimes. Beautiful clothes of all kinds!

    Cons

It is stepping back into high school. Not for sensitive people or people who need to support themselves in the real world.

    Advice to Management
