I have been working at TRC Companies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The TRc testing and commissioning group seems to really care about their employees. The positive attitude and genuine concern from coworkers is refreshing. Having worked for other companies where each project is done differently depending on who your working with, TRC has policies in writing making expectations clear while minimizing confusion. The training center is truly world class and industry leading. I really...

I worked at TRC Companies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I really enjoyed my coworkers and the flexibility I had, which was a huge benefit.

    Cons

Good ole boy system through and through. Raises and promotions are rarely ever given unless you’re in the good ole boy club. Unfortunately greediness is ruining the company morale. Hard working employees are purposely and continually overlooked bc someone’s buddy was hired in at twice your salary and with some made up title and job title. Major lack of foundational SOP and it’s like anything goes and nothing is consistent...

    Advice to Management

Create a standard SOP and follow it consistently. You’re lack of remaining consistent continues to lower morale because you all spend too much time hiring in unqualified candidates because you still follow the good ole boy system. You’re losing out on good projects because you don’t have the appropriate skill set. Your employees are overworked and under paid because you’re too greedy to spread even minimal raises across...

I worked at TRC Companies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexible working hours and location (office vs home). Diverse client list to expand experience.

    Cons

-Poor insurance (Cigna-among worst I’ve experienced). Lost all in-network providers from Aetna despite the promise of them all being available once switched -Pay raises are not performance based. Previous years have been “cost of living” across the board so little incentive to continue busting my tail while other refuse to travel and perform basic job duties but receive same compensation increases. -Promotions are not...

    Advice to Management

-Diversify insurance options. -Understand your employees strengths and goals. -Promote and reward those that work hard and deserve it and quit accommodating staff that refuse to perform their basic job functions -If you say staff will be getting a bonus then Make it a true bonus, not an insult to a promise

I have been working at TRC Companies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexibility in line of work, hard working but casual work environment

    Cons

Slow career growth, not much structure

    Advice to Management

Provide more guidance and opportunity to younger staff. Award good performance with financial compensation and overall feedback, acknowledgement, gifts, etc. Make people feel more important and part of something bigger that they're proud to be a part of.

I worked at TRC Companies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good place to learn about the environmental consulting business then move on to a different career.

    Cons

Low pay, high demand, high travel, client is always right and makes all decisions, including technical ones. If you disagree with a client, you will be removed from the project. All about $s and earnings. Expect calls and demands for your time at all hours of the day and night.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees’ knowledge and technical opinions; can’t always be motivated by dollar signs.

I have been working at TRC Companies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people in the office. Company culture varies wildly upon office location. There appears to be room for growth. My supervisor allows me to go to training and picks up the tab. Good health insurance with either a high deducible or PPO option. PTO is alright, but nothing to get too excited about. Flexible hours, depending on the location and supervisor. I have received a raise every year and also a bonus.

    Cons

Again, varies on office location and direct supervisor. Micro-management can be an issue. Current issue being that my supervisor "can't see the trees for the forest". Be sure to review the paid Holiday calendar and discuss PTO before making your deal. There are not many paid Holidays here.

    Advice to Management

When people grow in a position, and start to take on more complicated tasks that require additional responsibility, it may be time to have a talk about passing on more menial tasks. Your employees only have so much time/ energy and if the ability to prioritize tasks is something admirable or desirable, please treat it as such.

    Pros

    Decent salary. comfortable office setting.

    Cons

No real training method was developed for when junior engineers needed to learn something but it was easier and quicker for the senior engineers to just perform the task
