I have been working at TRICARE full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Get to play with a lot of cool, new stuff

Very little direction from distant (DC based) client

    Advice to Management

Get involved. Provide feedback, direction. Make products from research.

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Long term contracts. Consistent employment for 5 years.

    Cons

It's the government. No one wants to make decision. Working with DISA is a HUGE hurdle to overcome everyday.

    Advice to Management

Lowest price technically acceptable contracts are hurting both the government and the contract employees .

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook

I worked at TRICARE full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Usual benefits of working for the Government: four hours of annual leave and four hours of sick leave accrued every two weeks, AWS, being bulletproof after your probationary period is up.

    Cons

Usual stereotypes of working for the Government: poor management, bureaucracy, incompetent malcontents who make it their life goal to make everyone around them miserable by filing frivolous EEO complaints, little if any room for creativity.

    Advice to Management

Why would you ever do away with telework when your workforce is already miserable?

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at TRICARE full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, autonomous, value opinions, really care about those they serve

    Cons

If you struggle with taking the lead this may not be the place for you. If you bring an idea to the table plan to own it (I think this is a plus, myself)

    Advice to Management

Communication is always a top priority but the organization is large, keep trying

Current Employee - Senior Analyst in Falls Church, VA

I have been working at TRICARE full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Able to inform high level decisions
    - Flexible work hours

    Cons

    - Some insane deadlines that causes less than our best effort to be put forward.

    Advice to Management

    - Need more pushback to those outside of the Department

  11. "Positive."

    Pros

There use to be a lot of job growth and opportunities (I think this is changing). People use to be promoted from within - lots of flexibility with teleworking and alternative work schedules.

    Cons

Indifferent management - changes in leadership - hopelessly stove-piped organizational structure - constantly shifting focus - too many non-business oriented folks in charge.
