    Welcome to the Federal Government

Nov 7, 2022 - Master Coordination Center Officer

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Working with this agency is a good start for young people who are trying to build a career in the federal government.

    Cons

While it is not at will, employment, you really have to watch yourself and be careful of the people you associate with. This in itself is very difficult, because working as part of a team is actually in the job description. You cannot limit your interactions or else it will reflect negatively on you in your yearly reviews.

    Pros

Co-workers are excellent, hard-working people. Steady work. Benefits, FERS, TSP and federal holiday's some of which are not paid holidays with other employers.

    Cons

Late night and or early morning work hours, working holidays and weekends, working split shifts, constantly training new employees only to have them quit due to low pay. The TSA is frequently treated like a political football.

The bennies are the worm on the hook!

    Pros

The work is pretty simple once it becomes muscle memory. The medical benefits are fantastic.

    Cons

Huge disconnect between Officers and Management. Some of the most horrible communication I've ever experienced. The inability or refusal to make their employees feel supported will eventually either drain you or brainwash you into becoming part of the problem. Major internal flaws in the testing procedures with no regard for improvement. Hiring prior to completion of a lengthy background check which leads to one of the many factors that cause the high turnover rate. There is an obvious (yet unspoken/unaddressed) tension between staff members due to unfair and unequal treatment by supervisors. Headquarters and other administrative persons nationwide are disconnected from the individual hubs, creating a sense of "you're just a number on a piece of paper" among employees. Attempting to address and improve any of the above while employed there will leave you with a huge target on your back.

    Pros

Benefit options Flexibility to transfer to other airports in the US Opportunity to move up Networking

    Cons

Pay. Could be more. Dealing with passenger attitudes. How hard it is to move up in rank. The opportunity is there but it’s all in who you know now how you work.

    Will take over your life

Oct 28, 2022 - TSO (Transportation Security Officer) in Fort Lauderdale, FL
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Paid time off and time will go by fast you’ll be working so much

    Cons

Not flexible. Will have to give up your time and you’ll have no life. Most people who work here are military so they never had much of a life anyways so they don’t understand the frustration. Not for pretty girls. Good job for dykes and aggressive men. Promoting isn’t based on experience it’s based on if they like you or not. Will wear out your body so be ready for it.
