I have been working at TSMC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1. Opportunity of learning the cutting edge Si manufacturing technology
    2. Relative high compensation compared with other companies in Taiwan
    3. Be able to work in a leading company in a growing industry

    Cons

    1. The average working hour is too long and highly unbalanced. The working hour in some of the FAB departments is definitely in violation of regulation under authorities.
    2. Employees put too much focus on KPI reviews, regardless of the formation of business culture.
    3. The deadline of project is always so tight that there's insufficient time for team members to make their judgment. Those who couldn't meet the target deadline were usually punished by PMD reviews and be forced to transfer to other department, while the successors take all the benefit once the projects delivered.
4.Many of the employees are abused verbally by their supervisor on a daily basis, and the atmosphere in the office is highly uncomfortable.

    Advice to Management

The company is great, but they really need to review the working hour and the turnover rate in fab units.

    2. long working hours (>12hr)
    3. promotion is slow

    Advice to Management

I have been working at TSMC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

To be with family in Taiwan.
People in Taiwan admire you when you are working in TSMC.
The company won't fire people for now, so your job is stable and secured.
The job is easy and routine, which leads to good life-work balance if your manager is not mean.

    Cons

Salary is really low compared to big companies in the US.
    Not much career growth opportunities.
Living is not easy in Hsinchu since the salary is only half of what you will get in the US, but the living cost is similar to San Jose.
The environment and traffic is terrible in Hsinchu as well.

    Advice to Management

Give the employees more chances to grow and to gain experience from different function.

I have been working at TSMC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are many talented/experienced people working together to solve the process/integration issues, although some integration engineers cannot decide which approach is better, they want all tries, and that make the process engineers exhausted.
There are also some efficient utilities to assist engineers to dig out the useful data to troubleshoot. IT support are great.
Salaries+bonus is much better than other companies in Taiwan (although not comparable to the big ones in US)

    Cons

Too many trivial rules and unreasonably tight specs to follow, and that induces engineers make the fake data in order to pass the tool releasing to the manufacture.
Most Fab engineers do the routine, trivial, and boring works every day.
Poor work-life balance for most positions(especially Fab positions), but it depends on which role you're playing.

    Advice to Management

stop creating stupid rules to constrain your engineers
