I have been working at TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) (More than a year)

    Pros

Have worked for 3 summers and find TTC a good place to work straight out of highschool thanks to their high pay and good name on resume if you boost the job in the description.

    Cons

Very slow work pace, just gotta look busy, not much to learn when working in the garages. Can't speak for management position or engineering positions.

    Advice to Management

Have the summer students rotate in tasks as they don't require much training to be able to do most, and would make the time there more enjoyable from meeting new people. Would be similar to having a 'mini' apprenticeship program.

I worked at TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) full-time

    Pros

Great compensation, benefits, growth within the company. The TTC values its employees and ensures exceptional training for all of its employees. They encourage you to grow and to expand your network throughout the company.

    Cons

Poor hours, work weekends a lot of times, its based on seniority so you need to put in your time before you get to work a nicer schedule such as weekends off. The public of Toronto is very rude & is entitled. They are very abusive to staff in uniform, often the public hates on the TTC- many times its out of the companies control and most delays are due to the public.

    Advice to Management

Be a little bit more organized with scheduling/reporting

I worked at TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is quite good as are the benefits and pension. Lots of opportunities to move to different positions within the organization. Lots of opportunities to upgrade knowledge through courses and training programs.

    Cons

The company is structured in a way that there are no rewards or benefits for good performance and no consequences for poor performance. All pay raises are based on years of experience and work ethic plays no part in who gets what raise. People are promoted to levels way beyond their capabilities simply based on working at TTC for a long time, which results in all sorts of problems. Any sort of forward thinking or ingenuity is frowned upon.

    Advice to Management

If they want motivated talent to stay at the company they must implement pay raise/bonus based on performance. Management must also implement a system to properly discipline staff employees who continuously under-perform.

    Pros

Good pay, benefits and work-life balance. Some interesting projects and you'll get exposed to the city and its politics in a unique way.

    Cons

Lack of career progression and advancement. The corporate culture still needs work. Very "top-down" type of org.
