I worked at TVO Ontario (More than a year)

    Pros

The work life balance is amazing, the benefits are fantastic, the people are really nice and care about the work they are contributing towards. There are opportunities to job shadow and learn more about other areas of the business, from broadcasting to software development, if you take advantage of them.

    Cons

There are many silos, but changes are underway to reduce these. As a government agency there can be some red tape, but you can learn how to deal with this.

    Advice to Management

Take more risks, be more bold, and have trust in the innovative and modern initiatives put forward by new/younger staff members.

I have been working at TVO Ontario full-time

    Pros

Very family oriented environment. Work life balance is kept at a maximum because of the union.
Great employees for the most part. The majority of people are helpful and friendly.

    Cons

Different levels of expectations for staff. Long time employees often play the union card to justify only doing their job description. Newer younger employees are expected to go above and beyond to pick up the slack.
Little empowerment for lower level employees. Micromanagement seems to filter down from the CEO.

I worked at TVO Ontario full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A company you can be proud to work for, OK salary, great benefits

    Cons

Years of experience with the company mean nothing to them, contract employees not treated nearly as well as permanent staff, and currently a big push to hire teachers/principals into positions generally held by people who have MBAs.

I worked at TVO Ontario (More than 5 years)

    Pros

it was once was a good company that has degenerated with the size of the operating budget they receive from the provincial government.

    Cons

The director who I was forced to report to by far was the most unqualified manager I have ever reported to... ever.

    Advice to Management

resign. The senior management has lost the trust of the rank and file of the once great company.
