I have been working at TVO Ontario full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

High average salary for little to no work, great benefits package, great work-life balance

    Cons

Senior management on Current Affairs and Documentaries team is too old and out of touch with the digital world to run anything vaguely resembling an inspiring digital program. Team attitude is divisive and everyone is bitter. People on the team are uninterested in making a difference or working smarter or better, they just want to hang on to their stable union jobs. You won't learn anything and lack of leadership will make you dread going to work. Zero career advancement opportunities too.

    Advice to Management

Leave and let the company hire younger, smarter, more innovative digital experts instead of ex-print-newspaper hacks. Also, sack the lazy, inefficient, untalented longtime employees with huge salaries.

I have been working at TVO Ontario full-time

    Pros

TVO really does care about the citizens of Ontario and their future knowledge and education.

I am proud to work for a talented and energetic company where the glass ceiling for women had long ago been smashed.

There are so many projects underway as we transform in the digital age it's hard to keep count.

I have never been lucky enough to have been part of an organization with a clear vision and a true commitment to people's development before.

Honestly the salaries are not bad and the people awesome

    Cons

Not being able to spend money to market what we do with our high school the Independent Learning Centre or Homework Help as examples. More Ontario parents and teachers should know how we support their kids education

    Advice to Management

    Keep driving us forward!

I have been working at TVO Ontario full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

TVO does great work for Ontario. It feels good to be part of such a small but diverse organization.
    Benefits are great.

    Cons

Salaries are minimal and raises other than very small cost of living don't happen.

    Advice to Management

Compensation needs to be more competitive to reduce turn over.

I have been working at TVO Ontario full-time

    Pros

    - You can find nice people to talk to
    - Flex time

    Cons

    - the "legacy" staff is stuck in their ways
    - management will fire anyone who "doesn't meet deadlines"
    - moral among employees is low due to that fact
    - managers of certain groups don't even know the role(s) they are responsible for
    - deadlines are set at a very unrealistic standard, considering the person who set them doesn't know what the work actually involves.
    - no value placed in role, you're pretty much at the bottom of the food chain.

    Advice to Management

    - Treat people like they're actually valued
    - Truly learn the roles of employees you are managing
    - Communicate with employees who are "behind" on their deadlines instead of blindsiding them.

    Pros

Digital products are the focus - elearning (ilc.org), online journalism (The Agenda) and kids math games for teachers.

    Cons

Uncertainty of government/donor funded set up. Salaries are not competitive.

    Advice to Management

Doing more with less causes frustration.

I worked at TVO Ontario (More than a year)

    Pros

The work life balance is amazing, the benefits are fantastic, the people are really nice and care about the work they are contributing towards. There are opportunities to job shadow and learn more about other areas of the business, from broadcasting to software development, if you take advantage of them.

    Cons

There are many silos, but changes are underway to reduce these. As a government agency there can be some red tape, but you can learn how to deal with this.

    Advice to Management

Take more risks, be more bold, and have trust in the innovative and modern initiatives put forward by new/younger staff members.
