    Pros

Get to learn how to run a company to the bottom

    Cons

They acquired Shire out of fear that pipeline has drained and soon investors will find out, and CXOs can no longer cash in tens of millions dollars annually. So they made the decision to swallow an elephant, let go thousands of hardworking employees who have a family to feed. There’s no innovation of kind involved, anyone with elementary level education can get it the maths to work - merge two large systems, lay off tons, streamline operations, and you get beautiful top and bottom numbers out of the power of synergy! It’s just a financial trick to get by for another 3-5 years but not sustainable for the long run, no innovation or vision required. True innovative pharmaceutical invest in their people and technology, acquire solid assets, build deep pipeline, and celebrated/share its success with people, this company does everything opposite.

"Truly disappointed. Takeda is not on par with any of the big boys"

    I worked at Takeda Pharmaceuticals

    Pros

Decent pay. Benefits are on par with industry standards. A lot of people work from home which makes it hard to get anything done. No one works on Fridays. You probably can do nothing here and just feed management lies or inflate their egos-that’s how most have survived. Great for those near the end of their career.

    Cons

A former good biotech trying to put on big boy pants—lets just say they are far from the big boy pharmas in terms of everything—weak pipeline just enhanced by Shire, mediocre talent, medieval processes and very inexperienced managers. A lot of dead-weight. Not at all impressed with the old Millenium/Takeda folks..the good ones must have left because what remains is appalling. This company will drive away good talent.

    Advice to Management

Use this Shire integration to really evaluate talent top to bottom. Make hard decisions to ensure you get talent and the right culture. Don’t continue to rest on your laurels because this is how you got to this terrible point. Listen to new people and ignore those stupid surveyed where Takeda is number 2 in workplace survey—those surveys are filled out by the lazy people who get away with doing nothing so of course they are happy.

I have been working at Takeda Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very nice culture and the products they have are top notch--best in market.

    Cons

Even after the purchase of Shire, Poor pipeline while several products are about to LOE. It has become a "layoff company." Not aggressive getting products on managed care. Now, pretty large territories, often solo, competing v other products with teams. Launching products is a huge weakness for the marketing dept. Even naming of new products has been a disaster (ex: Nesina diabetes family of products...3 totally different and unrelated names); (ex #2: one of the rare companies to have needed to change a drug's name post-launch, and Takeda had to do it TWICE!! Kapidex-Dexilant, Brintellix-Trintellix). You must go to the home office in Chicago (now Boston) and training department in order to advance, with very few exceptions. They did away with pensions a few years ago.

I worked at Takeda Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent pay, company car which is generally the norm for pharma

    Cons

Pipeline slim to none. Biggest drivers of revenue have patents winding down in next 1-2yrs and nothing big to replace them with. Acquisition of other companies necessary but equates to lay-offs/RIF's/Downsizing whatever you care to call it to maintain "reasonable" headcount.
