I have been working at Talbots part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Talbots has a great brand and a great product. They understand the importance of uniting a team to get the job done. The employee discount makes it easy for employees to represent a brand that most all of them love already. Also, they offer benefits like medical and 401k match to part time employees.

    Cons

As with any retail, work can be difficult during big sales and events, and keeping customer service up can take a hit when the lines get long and there are only so many hands to do the work.

    Advice to Management

Keep fostering positive relationships between co-workers, so that slow days are more productive and busy days show the store team at their strongest.

    I worked at Talbots full-time

    Pros

Probably the only women's retailer who offers merchandise in 3 sizes in the stores (not just online): Misses, Petites, & Woman.

    Cons

It is a very difficult and lengthy process for store-level management to separate from non-performing and insubordinate direct reports.

    Pros

Some co-workers are cool and definitely help with the training

    Cons

    Poorly managed
Training was just a video and most of the day was spent folding clothes

    Pros

The employee discount is great-especially when stacked with sales/promotions. The clothing is very high quality which makes it easy to stand behind the brand.

    Cons

Pressure from management to reach unrealistic goals especially during slow traffic times of day. It also makes it hard to stay motivated to reach such high goals when you don't see any personal rewards for meeting those goals.

    Advice to Management

    Be more realistic with goals

    I worked at Talbots part-time

    Pros

There are no pros to working for this company. Management is geared to a "Do as I say, not as I do mentality." Gossip reigns with this company as most of it's employees are females who love to spread idle and most of the time totally untrue gossip about their co-workers. Management does nothing to stop it and chimes right in. Got called out on the carpet for sending out a message to the entire call center because was told Talbots has a "No Solicitation Policy." However, the message was an attempt to help co-workers not a solicitation at all and was totally misinterpreted by management. However, the company's policy is to "Do what's right for the customer," even if it means circumventing policy to do so. Why then does management not abide by the same policy when dealing with it's employees. The reason is clear: Management cares nothing about it's employees and their feelings and only about protecting it's customer base which provides it's source of Revenue. It's all about the money. The company cares nothing about personal relationships with it's employees, it's only focused on the almighty dollar. That makes it a poor choice of a company to work for.

    Cons

See above.....it's all laid out in the Pros (there are none) section.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employee relations and give them the same respect and dignity you require them to give to your customers. Bend policies for them and not just the customers.

    Pros

Great clothes and easy to learn the registers

    Cons

They do not care about their employees. They don't promote within. They're terrible at giving you breaks. If you complain to HR they retaliate!

    Advice to Management

Have exit interviews and secret shoppers so you can see his management treats staff

I worked at Talbots part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Decent pay for retail
    - Great opportunity to work as a team
    - Opportunity for moving up in store, possibly management or corporate (Sales associate --> Client Specialist --> Key Holder --> Assistant Manager

    Cons

    - Unclear terms for vacation/sick days
    - Unkempt promises for time off
    - Manager would give 35 hours one week and cut it to 12 the next without reason
    - Hours are effected by money brought in my store (somewhat understandable but also frustrating when you're relying on it for steady income)
    - Ultimately quit because hours were cut, management started problems between employees, management had deals worked out with district manager and screwed employees over

    Advice to Management

    - Don't lie to employees at interviews with empty promises that you can't keep
    - Don't talk down to employees in front of customers
