I have been working at Talbots full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You stay busy. Store resets every 6 weeks so there is always alot to do. You get a 60% discount on merchandise

    Cons

They overstock the store and stock room. company sends so much product that there is no place to keep it

    Advice to Management

Employ people full time. This part time with no benefits and want you to have open availability is a joke

I have been working at Talbots part-time

    Pros

The customers can be awesome...some have become friends, in fact!

    Cons

The overall quality of the materials has been debased over the years. Modal is a terrible fabric and doesn't hold up well. Sometimes, clothes look 5 years old after having washed them just a few times.

Instead of giving the sales associates bonuses for their hard work, low pay, and lack of insurance benefits, Talbots has begun to offer "Team Rewards," meaning sales associates are expected to raise the bar on sales and sell Talbots Credit Cards in exchange for making store goals. Problem is, only the managers, asst managers, key holders, and client specialists reap the real benefits of this awards programs. It's laughable when Managers post "Save up for your trips!" in the morning roster. If we meet the target goal, client specialists and up receive 500 points. Sales associates get 10...or maybe 50. Plus the client specialists make a mess of the floor while catering to clients, leave the fitting rooms a mess, etc. expecting sales associates to clean up after them. Where's the "TEAM" in that???

    Advice to Management

Rethink the Team Rewards...and understand what the meaning of TEAM is.

    Pros

Company truly changing for the better

    Cons

District management was not proficient in her job. In charge of 11 stores and didn't know how to open or close any of them.

    Advice to Management

Hold district managers accountable to the same standards in which all employees are held too.

I worked at Talbots full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing discount, fun customer, work life balance, fast paced.
The company truly does let the SM run the business. They give scheduling guidelines to help build an effective schedule.

    Cons

    Zero advancement opportunity.
I was hired as a co-manager. Then they decided to change job titles. Ran my store with comp increases and no issues. Not even interviewed for SM roll.
DM hired an external candidate who obviously lied on her resume. I did her job and mine for half the pay.
DM very moody and wanted people "performanced" out.

    Advice to Management

Try actually coaching your assistant managers so they can move up in the company instead of hiring someone who looks better on paper.
The floor moves, big sales and lack of payroll is insane.
    Pay increases for current employees.

    Pros

This is a great place to work. The customers are loyal to the brand and truly appreciate your help. I enjoyed going to work.

    Cons

My pay did not increase even after working there for 3 years. Sometimes dealing with customers was difficult but you find that with any retail job.

    Advice to Management

There were no negative experiences I had with management. My managers were kind and helpful and truly love what they do.

    Pros

Talbot's genuinley cares for people, and it shows in the tenure. They strive to be better everyday. If one shy's away from new idea's and innovation this would be a tough place to adapt to. But for me it shows growth and caring while staying true to our teams and customers. The clothes stay tasteful, beautiful and classic.

    Cons

Benefits for FT are good but expensive. Not the best.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!

I worked at Talbots part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great manager and entire team. Everyone there is so nice and welcoming. I got the job being underqualified, I was 16 with no high school diploma yet and they still let me have the job!

    Cons

After one year of working there I only received a 25 cent raise. They make you wear uncomfortable shoes, which I got knee and back problems from.

    Advice to Management

Allow associates to wear canvas shoes on the floor. One of my co-workers had to leave because she was getting knee surgery.
