"HR Company with Poor HR Practices"

    Pros

One of the leading on demand software companies with a blue chip customer base. Company is public and stock has been doing fairly well this year, with positive analyst ratings.

    Cons

Upper management treats employees poorly which is ironic given that they are in the HR space. Compensation strategy is to pay only at mid point, they are very stingy with stock options so only officers of the company make good money, while the rest of the employees make so-so money. CEO is tyranical and makes it a practice to publicly humiliate people in meetings.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach to your customers, talent is your best asset so take good care of it.

    Pros

SaaS and Talent Management Leader. Innovative, focused, agressive and driven management. Generous Perfomance based compensation. Opportunity for advancement for self-starters. Mostly very competent, bright colleagues. Increasingly global focus.

    Cons

Increasingly hierarchical corporate structure. Poor internal customer support. Poor employee onboarding, training and ongoing support. To be succesful you have to be independent, entrepreneurial and experienced. No formal career development, veteran's often passed over for management position in favor of new outside talent.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in customer service training and overall services delivery.

    Pros

Good people in management for the most part. Very personal and interested in you as a person (not all departments are like this, but most are). A person can get exposure to different departments if they want to. A person needs to be up front to get that, but I have found that very little is denied those who ask for it. Also, management seems to respond favorably to those who take initiative. IT is paid very well in general and seem all seem to be very pleased with the monetary portion of their compensation package. Upper Management gets great perks.

    Cons

Lower salaries. High stress environment. Long work hours.

    Advice to Management

    Improve the benefits package.

    Pros

Great team work and great management ard some of the other perks at working there are free drinks and a som ohter good extra benefits there. This company had gone tru a acquistion of Vurv Technology and that made this company to be the leader in the talent management industry compared to other competitors. They have a great products that can really be described to be much better than the rest of the applications out there. They have many global locations around the world and I believe they will grow in the next few years much bigger. Many chances to work in other locations possibly.

    Cons

too slow to repsond to employees needs about issues

    Advice to Management

Better communications to other employees in other locations

If you live in Alameda County and want to work for a company that is publicly traded and is in a growth market (HRIS) and probably won't run into any serious financial troubles in the near future. Also you may learn a lot of good software development practices and procedures. Benefits are standard and they have an ESPP program.

    Cons

Long hours and long commute if you don't live near Dublin. Long as in weekends and working through the night. A typical work week is 60-80 hrs.

The company is split into teams that support the enterprise product and those that support the product geared for the midsize market. The enterprise team tends to go through long (~6 months) development cycles whereas the SMB team tends to have short release cycles. Release cycles tend to be every 6 weeks.

If you miss deadlines, you get berated. If you work 'till wee hours in the morning for an entire month, you won't get any recognition for your hard work...not even a "Thanks for the hard work.". Just a here's the next project.

    Advice to Management

Conduct 360 performance reviews. Anonymous reviews of employees for their managers would be beneficial.

    Pros

Up and coming at the time... it was exciting to be in at the ground floor (this was just prior to them going Public). I also enjoyed visiting the Home Office in Quebec City, Canada. These are sincerely the only two good memories I have of my experience working for Taleo.

    Cons

The management team is miserable. I've never been affiliated with such a bombastic group. Going through training as a new hire is like going to Boot Camp. Similarly, the Managers are like Drill Sargeants. From a complete lack of recognition, to unfair criticism - the management team (which has since turned over several times) never realized that there are better places to work.

    Advice to Management

Pay close attention to what can be learned from Exit Interviews.

    Pros

Great people, good compensation. Some teams are closer than others but overall everyone is happy to work here. The company grew very methodically so there is no immediate danger of layoffs and job loss.

    Cons

Be prepared to work long hours. Everyone is very smart so you are working along with people who are used to working very hard and smart. There is a lot of pressure to succeed and new hires know very quickly if they are not going to fit in. Others who like the environment stay long term.

    Advice to Management

The company seems top heavy and still hiring senior management and adding more management levels. Communicate more and listen to your teams.

    Pros

Winning is part of the culture. Good balance of innovation and execution. Most important reason for Taleo being a great place to work is the talent management space which is exciting and growing fast and Taleo's position in that space.

    Cons

Fast growth and emerging technology always brings challenges and a lot of pressure but that's what you sign up for when joining Taleo. Company is quite distributed for its size so expect to spend a lot of time on the phone, on Webex and in planes. No real surprises here.

    Advice to Management

Do not lose long term focus, this is what made Taleo successful.

    Pros

    - Opportunities to work and network with the best corporate employers in country
    - Leadership as a vendor in the Talent Management space.
    - Great people to work with, for the most part.

    Cons

    - Management at times is deaf to input from people on the front line.
    - Internal bullying and questionable methods by individuals have been overlooked if overall objectives were positive.

    Advice to Management

The employee engagement level will decline unless greater emphasis is placed on performance feedback and recognition.
