None. This is a terrible example of Buisness leadership and technical prowess. A truly embarrassing Canadian failure from all stand points.

I worked at Talisman Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people who work here work hard and care about their jobs and the leaseholders.

    Cons

They use contractors (temps) in long term assignments, eliminating any possibility of ever having to hire someone, pay them a competitive wage, or benefits. The company is saddled with bad investments that were made in Europe so there's no way to expand their North American operations. This place is constantly being "reorganized" to try for quick fixes to long term problems. Their accounting system (PAS) is a joke. It might work in a company 1/4 Talisman's size but it's slow, unwieldy, and user unfriendly.
If you enjoy meetings, this is the place for you. There are meetings to plan the next meeting about a meeting.
There's no opportunity for advancement here. Avoid at all costs.

    Advice to Management

Figure out the direction you want to take the company in and stay with it

    Pros

If you do not belong to a minority group and can match up to the management's manipulation tactics then you have future in this company!

    Cons

No growth opportunities, manager's would take credit for your work and if you make a mistake they will be the first to throw you under the bus. Managers have agenda of their own and don't care about employees. Some individuals will get approval for all the random training yet others have to fight to get approval for even essential job related training. Managers use the moto "my way or the highway", forget about making any continuous improvements or suggestions on how to do the job "they hired you for". The company has been going through a de-diversification, majority of minority staff have been laid off with the exception of Spanish speakers. The Managers lie, cheat and deceive you so "watch your back". Typical Manager vs. Leader issues

I worked at Talisman Energy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The compensation package was middle-of-the-road on base salary, and exceptional for expatriates.
Global diversification of the asset base provided opportunities for international assignments.

    Cons

Long term incentive programme is irrelevant and valueless.
The company had a lack of cultural and gender diversity around the boardroom, and hence a deficiency in out-of-the-box thinking and creativity.
The spirit of innovation and entrepreneurism that made this company a success has disappeared.

    Advice to Management

A cultural overhaul is required to reinvigorate this company.
