I worked at Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance (More than 10 years)

    Pros

During events and year end parties, staff enjoyed great social therapy. A scanning system put in place is a relief eliminating folders and files. Performance evaluation is one of the good thing the organization invested in.

    Cons

Supervisor micro-managing is a serious problem making it difficult for staff to work independent. Cronyinism is another problem that produce a lot of turnover. Lot of gossiping. Be careful who and what you speak about to any staff.

    Advice to Management

practice fair treatment of all employees. avoid waste of organization resources and invest in your employees.

    Pros

Great pay...good benefits...Mon-Fri 8-5 off all major holidays good PTO

    Cons

Lazy leadership...no security in the building...no metal detector...people from ALL walks of life, lots of criminals that's why I mention security.

    Advice to Management

Lead before you can manage...delegating is good only when you'll use your time for bigger & better things...not because your just too lazy to do it yourself

    Pros

You really get to connect with the youth on your caseload. They become your "kids". The confide in you and you are able to make a positive impact on their life.

    Cons

The paperwork/reports is overwhelming on top of the 150+ candidates on your caseload. Incompetent managers.

    Advice to Management

Hire more career counselors to lighten the load

I have been working at Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are extremely friendly, you have the opportunity to assist those in need, and compensation isn't bad.

    Cons

Upper management and the leads are totally disconnected from the employees. Changes are made on a regular basis without colsulting with the people that it will effect. Change happens so regularly that no one knows exactly what the SOP's are. There is no communication with the various departments.

    Advice to Management

Stop changing things so much and try to get an understanding from what the employees think will work.

    Pros

Depending on the position, you have an opportunity to affect other people lives in a positive way.
Depending on who you know (or are related to, neighbor of, etc) you have an opportunity to make some nice money for very little work.

    Cons

Incompetent Sr Management and their friends and family that they hire.
You MUST tell them that everything is great, to do otherwise will put your job in jeopardy.
It greatly helps if you are a woman (all of Sr mgmt are woman as is 90% of mid level managers)

    Advice to Management

Hire people based on what they can do and not give jobs to family and friends.
Reward people based on merit and not on race or gender

I worked at Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Depending on which department you're in, your experience can vary drastically. If you don't have to deal with customers directly, could be a good place to work.

    Cons

This place is a dump. The building is old. Rude customers, catty staff and low pay for the amount of work and stress you deal with.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what your staff actually do, be more personable and don't choose favorites among your team. Read through email chains before responding.

    Pros

Gratifying work; comfortable environment; people are committed

    Cons
