I worked at Tampa General Hospital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent educators, Level 1 Trauma Center and Palliative Care experience, learn how to offer World Class Care to a diverse group of patients, prepares you well to find a job outside of this hospital in a specific chaplain role you seek

    Cons

A great place to work but not always having a chaplain position available at TGH beyond residency. They would like to keep those who have become awesome chaplains, but their budget doesn’t allow for them to keep them on.

I have been working at Tampa General Hospital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

TGH is one of the best hospitals overall in terms of service to patients.

    Cons

COVID-19 has greatly limited the opportunities available within the department. Entry-level pay is not enough for single income households to make ends meet.

I worked at Tampa General Hospital full-time

    Pros

There are some great people that work at a TGH, it’s just a shame that employees have to work so hard to get in the door only to be treated poorly. Great tuition reimbursement program.

    Cons

Parking lots are unpaved and overcrowded. Very cocky, almost snobby marketing: “We are the best of the best”. Low wages, high cost health insurance, charges employees to park on sight. Leadership uses the good ole boy system, lack of advancement. Limited presence in community, they would rather fund projects that can bring big press. Unrealistic work expectations from leadership. 30+ general employees report to director that is tied up in meetings all the time. Classism in workplace. If you are in a hourly, non-nursing role, you are treated like and paid garbage. Boasts child care onsite, but the waitlist is never ending. Poor shuttle system adds 90+ minutes to your long day. Outdated work processes mixed with new and innovative technology. The only way in the TGH door is to take a pay cut, accept a grunt position and hope after 5+ years, maybe management will promote you instead of bringing in an out of state new hire. Human Resources Department is dysfunctional at best and looks for reasons to write up employees.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Tampa General Hospital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

benefits, sometimes they give you meal tickets to the cafeteria.

    Cons

nurses and doctors abuse patient transporters and will treat you like a second class citizen, TGH loves there doctors and nurses and will say it 100 times over, but supporting departments (environmental services, patient transport, dietary) gets no love and gets verbal abuse from nurses and they treat you like your expendable and worthless. the pay is garbage for supporting departments (but better believe they take care of their nurses and doctors!) if you're not coming in here with a degree, don't come at all. The things they will do to you will not be worth the low pay they give.

I worked at Tampa General Hospital full-time

    Pros

Close to beaches, weather is great.

    Cons

I left bc the care given by TGh was scary. I would not have my children taken there to receive care or myself. If I cant trust ur care, I dont want to be employed there either! Advice or recommendations given to upper management is not appreciated or welcomed. They deny the poor care and continuously turn a blind eye!

I have been working at Tampa General Hospital full-time

    Pros

Great hospital that continues to make improvements. New CEO is making positive changes and seems to really care about his staff.

    Cons

Pay is less than nearby hospital, but the benefits are much better at TGH. The better work environment and respect from leadership makes up for the small difference in pay.

I have been working at Tampa General Hospital full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Best cases, never bored, always busy, patients from critically ill to healthy, radiologists are supportive, and teamwork is evident, love what TGH stands for! Our manager and director are both very present.

    Cons

Not sure about cons as your job is what YOU make it! We are very busy, not all staff are team players, but that is everywhere.....

I have been working at Tampa General Hospital full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The benefits are why I believe people stay so long. The Health Insurance is excellent and the ATO accrual is extremely generous. I do trust TGH with all my families care.

    Cons

The Cons are specific to the IT department and not the organization as a whole. One of the Epic Teams has been bleeding staff over the past few years, I would guess their attrition rate is hovering around 70%. The management is about the worst I have ever encountered. Their treatment of staff is at the very least bullying and in some instances I would say emotional torture. Public humiliation, gaslighting, and personal attacks are all par for the course on this team. They are pushing good loyal TGH employees out the door. When the environment has gotten so toxic that people are afraid to ask work related questions for fear of having it reported back to management then you have a serious problem. How can an IT department function in a non collaborative environment?
