Poorly Organized, poor quality of products

Nov 3, 2021 - Software Developer in London, England

    Pros

    Sparkling water in the office

    Cons

They were pretty poorly organized, dumping a large number of high priority tickets to the devs, as if marking a ticket as high priority would magically make us work faster. Often tickets given to the devs lacked any description of the task or issue. These tickets are written by Tangent employees, not their clients directly so there is no excuse for the lack of quality. When working on tasks, they'd ask for updates every 20 or 30 minutes, which is very distracting and makes every task take much longer because of the incessant interruptions. Large projects on which months of work were spent simply vanished because management wouldn't know what to do with them. Extremely high turnover rate, coworkers coming and leaving very frequently. They don't value doing things correctly and fixing issue, just selling buzzwords to their clients.

Fast paced digital agency determined to win

Nov 2, 2020 - Front End Developer in London, England

    Pros

    - The different teams at Tangent are some of the best I've worked with. Everyone is professional but fun to work with. - Tech chops are very strong and the agency has a good foothold in progressive technologies e.g. Node, React, Go etc. - Townhalls are always a laugh - especially during lockdown - and the Leadership team make a real effort to keep the wider business up to date with client wins, new hires, strategic initiatives. - Free Deliveroo lunch every Friday is a nice perk - it was nice to get together with people I didn't work with. - Nice range of clients - Large enterprises like SAP and IWG to scale-ups like Codility.

    Cons

    - Some times there is a bit of a disconnect between design + tech - the PM team do a good job of setting up the projects but sometimes it can feel as though design chuck things over the wall. Not always but every so often. - Tangent could work with more Charity + NGO clients.......although I think they are now working with a baby charity.

    People and Culture Manager

We're sorry to read your post. It's really important to speak directly to your line manager to enable communications issues to be ironed out. We want everyone who are a part of Tangent, to feel that they can talk openly with either their Line Manager or someone on the senior management team or the People and Culture Manager.

Good for new starter to learn fast

    Pros

If you do not have personal life and family and willing to get experience in short term, then it's a place for you. Great people to work with. I loved my team.

    Cons

Be prepared to work overtime for no extra pay. As developer be prepaid to take project management responsibilities as well. Do not be surprised if at some point you will get new responsibilities and tech stack you don't now without any notification and discussion. Very low salary for work you do.

    People and Culture Manager

We're sorry to read some of your comments and are particularly surprised about the comments on long hours. We introduced flexible hours last summer because we want people to have balance in their lives. And this was welcomed by the 47% of parents. Sometimes it's important to finish projects on time and this might mean staying beyond finish time - for those occasions we can claim days in lieu. If you want to speak to us to discuss anything further - please get in contact.

    Pros

Good salary and monthly benefits. Friendly developers.

    Cons

Very disrespectful attitude towards developers here, you are treated as a resource to be managed. Developers are treated much better elsewhere.

    Terrible for developers

Mar 19, 2018 - Frontend Developer in London, England

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - A way to get a foot in the door of the industry - Well-placed in terms of London location - Free daily breakfast provided

    Cons

    - Almost no developer culture in the company as of 2018, due to the majority of the team and core tech leadership having moved onto better companies and salaries. - Dreadful time management system which places an insane amount of dependency on developers' time estimates. - Fixed project deadlines set by higher-ups, which mean teams have to magically fit development into a predetermined timeframe regardless of how long things are likely to actually take. - Low salaries compared to the industry average. - No company benefits or performance-related bonuses. - Working from home is seen as an operational burden and is actively discouraged by management. - Projects taken on by the company are a take-whatever-they-can-get affair, resulting in no real technological focus. Development of new systems uses whatever software the client wants, completely disregarding any internal technical recommendations. - Too large a focus is spent on design phases, which has often resulted in design taking twice as long as development. - No 'spare' time, or time allocated to tech research or developer progression.
