    I worked at Tango full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great Google-esque perks (free meals + snack, great benefits, paid gym, etc), awesome new office, fun events, neat jacket, and lots of phenomenal talent!

    Super diverse employee staff of brilliant and friendly engineering, design, product, marketing, CS... especially the HR, workplace, and IT folks who made the place so lively! Was a great place to learn and work, felt nice to walk into an office that had a game room and an on-site masseur.

    Cons

    Too much leadership... with bad ideas. Was very top-heavy when I was in, importing lots of Director-VP level leadership, many of whom tried to implement nonsensical, pointless, and expensive features.

    A lot of the end products ended up being totally fruitless, which caused demoralizing waves of layoffs, which also further canned or mauled other teams that actually had potential to make money.

    It felt like a lot of senior leadership just saw Tango as a springboard to advance their own careers. Many of them jumped to Google, Facebook, etc, immediately after causing the fire that burned the ship down. The CEO and other leadership also seemed like they just wanted to do anything it takes to convince Alibaba to purchase more into Tango.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on the core product and what made it popular and relevant in the first place, and improve the core experience with meaningful features. Stop trying to turn the app into something it's not. Don't be so top-heavy in leadership.

    I worked at Tango full-time

    Pros

    Great workplace.
    Free lunches, snacks, beverages.

    Cons

    Company blew through $100+ million of investment $$ from Alibaba with very little to show for it. Three layoffs since 4Q 2015, with the last layoff 3 weeks before EOY (Merry Christmas!).

    Advice to Management

    None. Good luck. Hope you can pull through.

    I worked at Tango full-time

    Pros

    Competitive pay. Good benefits.

    Cons

    Sweat shop with a "payoff" of layoffs before their 401k match (every year I was there I saw this). Thinks offering food and mandatory "fun" events at the office is a valid replacement for your family.

    I have been working at Tango (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Competitive salaries
    * Reasonably smart co-workers
    * IT infrastructure in pretty good shape
    * Nice building
    * Cash in the bank

    Cons

    * Leadership has really failed to lead.
    * Engineering processes are not well defined. POR is not written down, it is off-the-cuff which is fine for a smaller company, but not a company trying to grow.
    * No core product growth, only band-aids on the client-side to increase MAU
    * Not attracting the right new talent
    * Product is irrelevant in the marketplace

    Advice to Management

    Start listening. Lead. Create a story that we all believe.
    Take steps to make the Tango product relevant again.

    "new management = new environment for Tango?"

    StarStarStarStarStar

    Pros

    New management, great product, drive to continuously innovate.

    Cons

    Former management was draconian, usually without explanation. Luckily, the former CEO has moved on, so the negative reviews you see here should not influence your decision. My feedback is that new management is far better at motivating the team.

    I have been working at Tango (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly environment, fine benefits, acceptable work load, nice office, OK food.

    Cons

    1) While other competitors in the area focus on improving their core technical competency, Tango try to defeat its competitors by putting weird buttons promoting silly features everywhere to increase engagement... LOL
    2) The product design can be ridiculous. For every feature that's could be correctly built and used by users, eventually it become weird and scares users away, thanks to its innovative product team.
    3) Weak engineering team. While engineers at other companies take bold movement and do something that's actually challenging and innovative, engineers here focus on mess up their apps again and again to annoy users.
    4) Weak infrastructure. The company has no interest of making the foundation solid. The app and the services are glued together and all like a mess. As a result, the company moves either too slow, or too fast to maintain its paces and get things worse.

    Advice to Management

    The company may still have a chance if it's willing to do something really well, instead of testing its luck here and there.
