The company needs a better CEO

      Pros

Lots of great people. Good potential to really build something big.

      Cons

It's such a pity that great people are overruled by poor management, led by the tyrant CEO. The CEO constantly spreads out negative energy throughout the entire organization by micromanaging, public scrutiny even humiliation, last minute changes, short-term focus, and promoting long hours and weekend work. No respect for individuals. No appreciation for work. The company doesn't have strong vision or mission. Only strategy seems to be making numbers seemingly attractive and hoping to sell to Alibaba some day. Focus is always very short-term. Projects are rushed out or cancelled. Conflicting priorities at all times. On top of that, the company has mis-aligned execs. It has more VPs than people who actually get things done. Directions come from all over the place. But guess what, it doesn't matter if they are aligned, the CEO will change it after all anyway.

      Pros

Tango used to be a leading messaging company; however, they lost their battle to competition that executes faster with a coherent strategy. Great talent has long left the company.

      Cons

      - No evident exit or fundraising options for the future. Even existing investor Alibaba invested in Snapchat. - Undergoing major layoffs with people disappearing over night. These efforts are led by a ruthless CEO who thinks investor's money are his own. - Almost 50% employee turnover with many new hires leaving the company in a couple of months after realizing coming to Tango was a mistake. - Below the market compensation plan. If you are a great engineer you have much better options in a hot market these days. - Weak leadership team with no growth strategy as evident by tanking user numbers and engagement. - Lack of product vision. The core product team has no prior experience in social. Just check out the latest reviews of the app in the app stores

A toxic company with lack of growth or exit potential

      Nov 7, 2015 - Anonymous Employee

      Pros

Tango used to be a great company in a great space. However, over the last year the company took a nose dive. All the great talent is gone from the company and those remaining are stuck due to visa issues.

      Cons

Notoriously toxic culture characterized by lack of trust, deceit, and false promises. Use growth and engagement is DOWN by more than 50% in the last year. Tango has gone from approximately 350 employees to 200 in the last six months. Significant number was laid off due to hiring mismanagement of an incompetent salesman COO. The remaining employees are looking and many are stuck with "visa issues" because the company has purposely dropped the ball on the process. Don't fall for their visa sponsorship promises. The investors gave up on the company as well. There are no board meetings at all and Alibaba invested in Snapchat. P.S. The management team is paying employees to write positive reviews for Tango on Galssdoor

      Stay away at all cost

      Pros

They were able to convince stupid rich investors to give them a lot of money. Too bad employees don't see any benefit from it.

      Cons

Worthless team members for design and product. Benefits being cut back constantly. You will not benefit from the large amount of Alibaba money they have. If they say otherwise (and they will), its a flat out lie. Good performers get laid off regularly. In 1 year had 2 major layoffs. Shares are worthless, and the more you dig into things the more you see they keep lying to try and make themselves look good when they are screwed. Executive team members can't even give a clear answer to what the goals for 2016 are.

      Pros

Great workplace. Free lunches, snacks, beverages.

      Cons

Company blew through $100+ million of investment $$ from Alibaba with very little to show for it. Three layoffs since 4Q 2015, with the last layoff 3 weeks before EOY (Merry Christmas!).
