I worked at Tanimura & Antle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great family-feel - Super nice people - Small enough to be nimble and have decisions not take forever - Big enough to make things happen

    Cons

    - Sometimes feels a little down home - I think maybe the company is a little too comfortable, needs to continue to focus on innovation

    Advice to Management

Try to get more smart people : ) Embrace innovation and change Make opportunities for go-getters that are outside the normal path of advancement

I worked at Tanimura & Antle full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Family atmosphere. T&A is a powerhouse in the produce industry. Working there means you are at the cutting edge in new product development, IT as a force in agriculture and bringing healthy food to the American plate. It is a family owned business - decisions are made and executed with not too much hand wringing. The company make a lot of money and if the weather cooperates they make A LOT of money which appears as... bonuses in your paycheck. Location in Salinas is ideal.

    Cons

Family owned business - you will never be CEO. Also they act like your salary is coming directly out of their pockets - because it is. The laborers are a nice bunch in general, but you gotta speak Spanish or you got no game. They develop their younger people up to a point. The best are constantly leaving for more opportunity elsewhere. Several old hands are in place and not moving. Probably the best and worse... about T&A is that it is family owned how that works is whether you are in or out. Half the year a large part of the company moves to Yuma for the winter growing season. That's ok if your personal life can take it., It's not managements fault, it's the business and the market. But Yuma is responsible for broken families.

    Advice to Management

You are in an industry that has its traditions - don't get stuck behind the plow. Use your IT people to develop better ways to give you control over your products, your processes. Invest in decision support systems to manage your logistics and growing. Big data is not just for faceBook.
