I have been working at Tantalus full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Fast growing but still small company with big aspirations and a unique position. Individuals can really make a difference if they have enough time.

    Cons

No work life balance for the majority of US employees; many are burning out quickly, feeling unimportant and under valued.

I have been working at Tantalus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fast growing, technically challenging. Relatively flat organizational structure, with dynamic teaming across departments. Burnaby location has game room and on site cafe. Regular after work socials.

    Cons

Must ware many hats. As a small/medium company there is not a lot of self contained teams.

I worked at Tantalus for more than a year

    Pros

Canadian location is nice I suppose.

    Cons

Chaotic, disorganized, poorly managed (dictatorial mentality). Product technology is way past it's sell by date compared to the many better alternatives and I think management knows it!

I have been working at Tantalus full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

New leadership trying to implement policies and procedures but destined to fail if eyes aren't opened to abilities and value of employees who are behind the scenes.

    Cons

Lack of accountability, dishonest and doesn't truly care about employees. Long hours and hard work by the few outweighed by short hours and minimal work by the many. No communication between departments equals mass chaos. Many demands, little follow up and no true direction. Full of verbal promises but lacking when it comes to fulfilling those promises to employees. Will pile few people with work from different levels and never realize the long hard days put in to stay afloat by those who are truly loyal. Essentially, low output and high visibility = high compensation with no accountability...enjoy 9-5 "job" and daily golf. High output with high quality results and low visibility = low compensation, high accountability and being taken advantage of...enjoy 14 hour days and can't afford golf ball to join the game. Poor financials given as reason to some for no increased comp, but a week later you hear they've hired 3 more less qualified people at 2-3x your salary to do the work you are doing by yourself for penny's on the dollar.

I worked at Tantalus full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work in new SmartGrid - Smart Meter technology sector, customer base in U.S., Canada, Carribean and South America. Potential for rapid advancement.Travel to beautiful spots of rural, wide open Canada and United States. Work with various electrical co-ops and municipalities. AMEX card, computer and phone with data package and MiFi hub. Room for advancement.. Good benefits, competitive pay, reasonable negotiation process, paid holidays and 401K with 4% matching. All employees company wide receive fixed 3 weeks of vacation. Canadian startup.

    Cons

C-suite taken with themselves, founder of company unable to let go and let staff make intelligent decisions needed to rectify technical issues, excessive technical debt with no end in site, poor guidance of company, chaos, knee jerk reactions to problems, no development of staff, people fired for thin reasons, yet others kept that are obvious roadblocks to success. Repeated deception of product issues to customers. Technically unqualified people placed in management positions. Training marginal or solely on-the-job hands-on. Sales have dried up and people let go without position back fill. Low number of sales wins past 18 months, resulting in cash flow and other financial difficulties as a result. Financial position hidden from employees, and running on borrowed money month to month. Canadian startup.
