The people I work with are second to none. The ambiance is great and the teamwork is excellent. The ability to work alongside and support USA Troops and Allies is incredibly rewarding for me.

I worked at Tapestry Solutions part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The environment at Tapestry Solutions was very welcoming. The staff and fellow workers are very personable. The hours to work are VERY flexible and they are very understanding of student lifestyles.

    Cons

Team organization was a little disheveled. It was also difficult to first get acclimated with all of the processes going on at the company. Programs we worked with were also very broken and buggy, making it almost impossible to work with.

    Advice to Management

Clean up organization and keep up the good work. The understanding and flexibility held by the staff is tremendous and very encouraging for workers to keep on working.

    Pros

    Pick your own hours.
The atmosphere is stress free and social
Regular free food and company compensations
Work in one on one scenarios

    Cons

The work is repetitive and senseless. I tested the same functions hundreds of times on a weekly basis and it was very hard to stay motivated and productive.

    Advice to Management

Keep the work flow rotating and more learning focused to find more bugs in the software. I felt trapped in my subsection of functionalities.

"Cal Poly students: get a job somewhere else"

Former Employee - Software Engineer, Part-Time in San Luis Obispo, CA
Former Employee - Software Engineer, Part-Time in San Luis Obispo, CA

I worked at Tapestry Solutions part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They're flexible with scheduling, you can even elect to work on weekends if your weekdays are totally impacted with classes.

    Cons

Pay is pretty bad, compared to the other places in town that hire student developers part-time. It's not a very useful learning experience (except maybe if you're a freshman) because all they have you do is fix bugs found by the QA department and occasionally implement a minor feature if you're lucky.

    Advice to Management

You should pay your student developers more, but if you really want to attract the best of the population, you need to give them more sophisticated work. Any job that isn't teaching a student more about computer science or software engineering is a waste of the student's time.
