I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not the best, not the worst. Retail is hard these days. If you're thinking about career paths, get yourself exposed to something where human aspects have enduring value. Retail is not one of those. Good for exposure to general aspects of business.

    Cons

See previous comment. As I said before, if you're thinking about career paths, get yourself exposed to something where human aspects have enduring value.

    Advice to Management

Offer employees training opportunities to increase their value and that of your enterprise. They might become more expensive in the short term, but you can build value that way.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexibility scheduling, simplicity of tasks, and an attachment to several (not all) of the men and women who work there makes working at Target worth it

    Cons

Incompetent, socially impaired, and worst managers ever to be dug up from Hell. I am always left wondering where on Earth does Target grab some of the worst people to lead others in their stores.

    Advice to Management

It is fine if managers can not be excellent in their positions, but for Christ's Sake think about the people who work for you, be a People's Person, your suppose to be a Leader not their Master. Don't belittle them, don't harm them, don't screw them over, help them to grow and shine, not shrivel and die.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

some of the he employees and management really like what they're doing and it's a pleasure to come to work. also the guests are pleasant most of times.

    Cons

The cut back on Staffing and hours impacted the team members that had to do the same amount of work within the same amount of hours.

    Advice to Management

I understand the bottom line is a priority, but I really feel as though that as a corporation your team members mineral oil and come to work every day motivated and want to get the job done are very important and they should be taken care of.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have learned a lot about leadership, how to strategically solve problems, and how to handle difficult situations. 10% employee discount on all purchases. 5% 401K match is the best I have seen. The salary is very very good and the opportunity for pay grade increases is frequent and appealing.

    Cons

The schedule has no consistency; you work nights, weekends, and holidays. In the DC market there is very little chance to get promoted to Store Team Leaders and turnover is very high.
