I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hours are can be flexible and management encourages further education. There are a lot of options for part-time and seasonal work.

    Cons

There is a lot of focus on pushing their debit/credit cards. At times I was told that my job could be on the line if I didn’t convince more people to get a “red” card.

I worked at Target (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good culture. Fast fun and friendly

    Cons

Lack of advancement for hourly team members. Even with college degrees

    Advice to Management

Hourly team Members have Talent Too

    Pros

Great environment, awesome way to learn about management, great mentors. There are great workshops and conferences.

    Cons

Work life balance can be a bit difficult. It'd be great if they gave an extra day off. Payroll can be difficult to manage.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the one on one statuses. They are great and really helpful for the rest of the team. Keep it up

  7. "experience and hard work with results will not get you promoted without a 4 yr degree...that you may not need in retail"

    Pros

Flexibility with scheduling. Good work/life balance. Above average pay.

    Cons

Experience prior to Target doesn't matter without a 4 yr. Degree. Often recruit graduates from college with no retail experience that you ..in a lower level position have to train. 0 opportunity for advancement without degree.

    Advice to Management

Seek out talent...develop and promote that talent. Recognize hard work and experience.

I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Bonuses in February, can have heavy access to the districts and other leaders in hopes for a quick promotion if liked.

    Cons

Too many to list honestly... Bad pay. They will work you 60+ hours a week and expect you to come in on your days off. It's very much a political game. I was liked throughout my district and my General Manager didn't like that so she was ruining every chance I ever had at making it far with Target. She would purposely put me in bad positions and make me fail. It was not the best place to be. Their entire store is red for a reason. It's like working at HELL!! Bad bad management and only seeks the ones they like in order for you to succeed cause they are the ones who do your reviews and bump you up in pay and bonuses.

    Advice to Management

If Target is "so" big on developing people then actually take the time and not just tell them how it should be done then make fun of them for not knowing. Fake people all around this store.

I have been working at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great team members to work with. Team comes together in times of need. Work is super simple and keep me busy during the day. Great for a second job but hard to make it the only source of income

    Cons

Other then feeling like my pay doesn't reflect how many hours or work I put in. Some ETL's seem to always be on a "ego trip" which makes it hard to connect with them on a human level.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to team members needs and concerns . Notice team members that show potential, have promote them more through the company

I worked at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

always busy, clean environment, fun, meet amazing people, good retail experience, recognition, some management

    Cons

lack of promotion from within, heavy work loads, some management

    Advice to Management

I have had some of the best managers and the worst at Target. Some are complete role models that you strive to be like and others are, for lack of a better word, incompetent.
