I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible hours
Fair pay for high school/college students
    Resume builder
10% discount on all products in the store
    Opportunity for growth

    Cons

Constantly nagged to push the Target credit card (Red Card) on guests
Hours drag if store isn't crowded
    Stressful if store is crowded

    Advice to Management

Advertisements for the Target Red Card are plastered all over the store and at the registers. Cashiers should not have to press into guests if they would like to sign up because they receive no rewards or benefits for doing so.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Gain great friendships with fellow team members
-Management is very good at training you to be the best you can be

    Cons

-Hard to move up because they hire people externally more than internally to the higher positions

    Advice to Management

    Look internally before looking elsewhere

I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Friendly Atmosphere. Always something to do if you're willing to do it.

    Cons

I saw too many good managers get let go. Not enough training time offered to people who care enough to learn more.

    Advice to Management

I've noticed bad managers often throw good managers under the bus. The bad managers often form groups to get support from each other and have backup to verify their stories.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked the Christmas season last year. They had fun little games to encourage you to get credit/debit card sign ups, and you could win prizes. That made being a cashier a little more interesting. The management was nice, they were encouraging, hours were good, not many complaints. Just a typical retail job. They had really good snacks in the break room, and sometimes full meals! Great application process - I applied and got hired the very next day! That might just apply for seasonal though.

    Cons

The employee discount is pretty low - 10% - and you only get to use it if you use cash or a Target card. They time you when you ring up customers which makes you HATE the customers for going slowly. God forbid people don't have their money out and counted by the time you finish ringing them up. Or if they have a chip in their card - then you're screwed. You get warnings when the customers go too slowly, but I didn't work there long enough to find out what happens when you get more than one warning. It seems more and more corporations are starting to do this.

I have been working at Target (More than a year)

    Pros

The people I work with are the best. The management is very flexible when it comes to working with medical issues and time off.

    Cons

The pay is horrible. Cross training may get you a pay bump but getting the company to cross train you is difficult.

I have been working at Target (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible scheduling for college students

    Cons

Expect your hours to get cut severely during times of the year where the company doesn't make many sales. Team leaders will often have unrealistic expectations when it comes to getting tasks done. Overall, I did not feel like management cared about me and there are no opportunities for promotion. Seems like they prefer to hire externally for upper-level positions. Dealing with frustrating "guests" is the cherry on top for what I consider to be a pretty horrible job.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun work to do if you like retail, really fast pace environment. You get to really know the people you work with because they share you wins and losses.

    Cons

Upper Management (District managers and higher) more often struggle to have a pulse on stores. They walk into stores with no concise messages and often change plans unnecessarily. High turnover at the Executive and Store Manager level has result in untrained and inexperience management in the stores. While they preach an inclusive culture that welcomes honest feedback, it is more often than frowned upon and as a result store managers are forced to "Yes" District managers even when it isn't in the best interest of the store or district.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep losing quality managers to Amazon, Best Buy and Apple, keep doing what you are doing. Target continues to try and reposition itself due to the credit breach and the Canada failure. As a result good people get lost in the shuffle. Pick up in-store was a half though-out process and as a result is more than likely costing more money for Target than it should. It's clear that you need to constantly evolve to stay competitive and relevant, Target just isn't doing a good job at it right now. They need to see that at the end of the day, Target's success is measure in value of the dollar and their environment in stores. I have some faith in the company getting back to what matters most.

    Pros

    Great and fun team members.

    Cons

Get blamed for almost anything that goes wrong in the store, literally. Sleep patterns are weird, hardest team to manage in all stores.

    Advice to Management

dont take on this position with an offer lower than $18 per hour, or you'll go insane. Be kind to team members, work hard along side your team to gain their respect, and do your best to help out in other departments in the store, email everything so you can have proof of what you've helped with through out the year to receive a good review.

    Cons

Pay, upper management can be pencil pushers, demonstrate 0% of accountability

    Advice to Management

Too many chiefs not enough Indians at times.
