I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

pretty good first job. paid well. you did what everyone else did but you also kind of did your own thing at the same time. nice people.

    Cons

discount is so small, 5% with a red card and 10% with employee discount. they shove red cards down your throat like crazy. very disorganized and confusing.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is often above the minimum wage and you get a raise each year depending on your performance. They offer a lot of opportunities to be trained in many areas and do look for people to promote often.

    Cons

The management is horrible. They preach about using the computer system for day off requests or schedule availability changes but don't check them. Stores are often very understaffed but they won't hire more people and instead ask current employees to do their job and someone else's. Even when the store is properly staffed no matter what position you are hired as you are required to do a lot more than what is stated in your job description, which is a lot in itself.

    Advice to Management

Think about how much work you are laying on your employees and figure out if you could finish it all to your standard while helping guests and getting called around the store to do team huddles and such.

I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's mostly fast paced, it provides lots of experience for better jobs, they hire people with literally no experience, do it! it's worth a paycheck

    Cons

lack of management!!! Team leads need to come together to discuss store goals more often, because everyones out to save themselves and their department. Expect to kiss ass to move up, if there are any opportunities. they outside hire, so promoting is dog-eat-dog.

    Advice to Management

Please discuss store goals more often, take advice from TARGET TEAM MEMBERS - SOFTLINES, HARDLINES, AND MARKET. These are your top sellers! Your floor workers know best, because they are out on the floor handling everything!

I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not much! Discount on purchases; and being able to buy household necessities/grocery items where you work is a plus, when you have minimal time in your day. They will work with your schedule, and there is usually someone who will take your shift if changes are needed. Co-workers were generally friendly and hard working at my location. Most Dept./Team leads were long-term employees and really knew their areas well. Current postings of multi-level job openings all across the country were posted near back offices, making it easier if you wanted to relocate/transfer or apply for higher position. Technologies /equipment used were ok.

    Cons

So many employees, yet still not enough staff make work difficult. Unresponsive, lazy management and constant revolving door of employees due to low pay and hard work leaves a cold feeling in the store. Late hours if you close, plus you may have to work major holidays (w/time and a half). Training is minimal; like most retail you must be a "self -starter". Not many benefits for part-timers; I think one B-day and one week of vacation after a year. Room for advancement was small, as most higher levels were already filled with long-term associates.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your crew, and work as hard as they do. Barking orders and being rude isn't going to help attrition. Customer service will not improve with frustrated, overworked employees who receive pennies while corporate reaps the benefits and bonuses of their slavery. Many depts. need more than one person staffed to complete work properly and ensure proper "guest" service. Recognize good talent, emphasize teamwork (including management). Your Team Leads can't do all the work for you, they sometimes need help/guidance with their multiple responsibilities .
Note: Sometimes a simple "Thanks for all your hard work" makes employees feel acknowledged/recognized for what they've done that day.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great diverse culture, Friendly co-workers (most), Responsible Team Leaders

    Cons

Low pay compare to the workload

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Most team members get along, we're all stuck in the same boat. Equipment and training is very good. Usually FFF place to work at.

    Cons

The pay isn't the best, but if you're a student going to school and working at the same time, it's not a bad gig. Hours seem to fluctuate a lot which isn't too good, but that's all based on sales. There is some favoritism going on as well.

    Advice to Management

Half the management is fresh out of college and not too competent. A few ETLs can run a pretty good crew though, it all depends on experience I suppose.

    Pros

somehow friendly working place, they make sure you get your benefit and all employee rights. the senior management are reasonable to talk with.

    Cons

some overnight shift are a bit stress. they try to not to make employee work overtime, but overnight shift a lot of the time need to work overtime.

    Advice to Management

not much advice to them, i think they are doing great. really have not much to say here . .
