I worked at Target full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I started here as a Team Member and there were many opportunities for advancement. Leadership teams usually rotate weekends and most stores are flexible with scheduling. I was able to go to school full time and stay employed with Target full-time. There processes are by the book and when executed properly - are very effective. The company has many programs that promote team unity and cohesion. The benefits were great when I was employed with them, although I'm sure they have changed over time.

    Cons

As with any retail company, you will have to work nights, weekends, and some holidays. Expectations of a Target Team Member seem to exceed those of some competitors in order to offer exemplary guest service. Store leadership can vary from location to location. If the company guidelines aren't followed - team morale will suffer.

    Advice to Management

While there is opportunity for advancement, I would like to see Target promote from more from within rather than taking new recruits from the Target Business School. Team Members who have been with the company for years respect and value the company and have much to offer.

I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment. The team looks out for one another. Scheduling were flexible to student workers most of the time. There are some room to increase positions based on availability and work ethic.

    Cons

The assistant manager that was in charge during the time was not willing to work with my school schedule for important events. Picking up slack from other employees.

    Advice to Management

Keep to the scheduled agreed between a student worker and the managers in mind before assigning shifts that will compromise the student workers school schedule and have to choose between going to school or getting written up for not showing up to work. Take into account for the sake of both the store needs and the student workers.

    Pros

    Fast paced, varied, challenging, exciting

    Cons

Small raises, inconsistent enforcement of policies, don't stand behind employees
Little chance of advancement without a degree.

    Advice to Management

Enforce all policies in a consistent manner, instead of every manager enforcing only select policies and stand behind employees when employees enforce policies/
