I worked at Target (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunities for advancement if you are a hard worker, flexible with scheduling and hours, store management was very helpful and proactive with their employees, good work environment and good people.

    Cons

They have a lot of opportunities for high school and college students which in turn can create some immature employee relations

    Advice to Management

Let employees have a store discount

    Pros

Team environment, flexible hours, every other weekend off as a team leader

    Cons

No family time around the holidays, Stress, Redcards, upper management is only concerned with themselves- it was like being under the thumb of the mean girls club, pay sucked, and did I mention Redcards?

    Advice to Management

Stop pushing the Red card so much, take better care of your team,

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The flexibility is nice, ok benefits package and pay is comparable to industry standards.

    Cons

The biggest downside is the culture. There is a culture of meetings, over communication, and a real lack of direction and confusion about priorities mostly from the top down. In addition promotions are decided by manager group chats where usually the most "liked" person will get a promotion (doesn't matter what work you do - just be well liked). The work that you have is hard to actually do, because you will spend a majority of your time in meetings trying to figure out how to do it and talk about what you will do and who needs to be involved. By the time you get any time to actually do anything, priorities have changed and your back at the drawing board in a whole new set of meetings. I've been working there for 2 years and still haven't gotten a chance to do what I was hired for. In addition - layoffs, not a good time to go work for them. Maybe in the future things will get better...

    Advice to Management

Clarity is needed, and meetings need to be stopped.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Relocating to a new city is an easy transfer. Consistent pay checks.

    Cons

Late nights. Holidays are no longer fun. If you are a hard worker, people with poor work ethics make your job harder.

    Advice to Management

Reward hard workers better. If they do their job, don't push them to do other's as well just because the others don't want to. Many nights were extended because people weren't held responsible and the ones who didn't care had an easy night, while those who did care had to do their own work and work not done by others.
More options to be able to enjoy holidays by giving options of having some off.

Having a high management turnover shouldn't require you to re-prove yourself each time.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Target provides great benefits.
As a manager you have a set schedule with every other weekend off.
Target does try to develop its team members and promote within the company.

    Cons

You have to work weekends due to the weekends being busiest days for retail.
Guests that shop in the store can be very rude at times.
As times change Target cuts back more and more managers.
If you work your way up in the company you will not earn as large a salary as managers hired from outside the company.

    Advice to Management

Improve the communication to lower management.
