I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with customers and helping to fulfill their needs on a daily basis was fun as well as getting to know regular customers.

    Cons

Can we say "Clique?" I thought all of the pettiness of high school drama was in the past. Not so at Target. I often times describe my experience working at Target as like "Animal Farm." The idea that "everyone is equal but some are more equal than others" is pervasive throughout the employees, more so in the upper management workers--if you were hired as a cashier and you do not brown-nose the management you will not ever be able to work in a different area unless one of their "pets" is unavailable at the time.

Pay is also pretty bad and if you expect a raise, you have a lot of boots to lick!

    Advice to Management

Grow up! Understand that not everyone wants to be like you and it would be greatly appreciated if playing favorites was not a daily occurrence.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits. Sick Days. Breaks. Decent Pay.

    Cons

Too many managers. You could get told to do one thing by one manager and told to do something else by another. Overly stressed out about guest service scores, but fail to realize that only upset people take surveys because thats how the world works. I've seen them attack and act passive aggressively towards amazing employees about guest service.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be less management.

    Pros

Target has an okay discount program, but can only be used with cash or the RED card which can be slightly annoying when you dont have either.

    Cons

The customers were sometimes rude, sometimes bitchy and never really nice. Lots of people wanted things double bagged which is a pain in the butt.

    Advice to Management

Back up your cashiers when customers are being rude.

    Pros

No responsibility. paid to just stand there in front of the lane, almost everyone is nice. Once i gave away $150 in groceries accidentally the manager just told me to try not to do it next time. Can work where ever if you want to in the store. scheduled cashier sometimes work as cart attendant and sometimes help at guest service and help at the pharmacy. I am always able to work the number of hours i want to.

    Cons

Grumpy customers! i am at the Edina target. Edina is knowing for everyone having money. and so a few of the customers take the attitude that they know best. but usually if anyone gives you a hard time the managers are there to help you. But there is one manager who is mean. but it is easy to stay away from the bad managers. Not very fond of the benifits target has. better to get your own health insurance than get the ones target offers.

    Advice to Management

Pay more. pay differently. Cashiers should not get paid by the hour. i feel bad for the fast cashiers they get paid the same if they go fast or if they go slow. i have heard and said my self several times i am paid by the hour why in the world would i work faster it doesn't influence my pay check at all. if i only going to work three years at target only getting three raises. who really cares. i got a 26 cent pay increase. $540 more a year. wow yeah like i am going to try to do good to get another "Excellent review".
