I have been working at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The scope of the problems you work on is enormous. There are few places where you can work on systems and practices that support 2500+ stores and billions in revenues!

    Cons

There are many mainframe and legacy systems that have to be retired, but the future of their technology looks great!

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The work life balance was good; was very flexible for working from home, flexing hours. Especially with their off the grid campus location in Brooklyn Park. Target discount was nice. Benefits and pay were very good.

    Cons

In IT, they are trying to shove the Agile methodology down the throat of the entire organization. It definitely makes sense in software development areas, but in other areas like Build/Engineer, it's like trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. If you want volatility and constant state of transformation, Target will be for you. Management is hyper focused on productivity and daily micromanaging of Engineers....

    Advice to Management

Stop micro managing. Trust your employees and validate results. Utilize your employees actual skill sets, instead of trying to fit them into an Agile peg.

I have been working at Target full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

In the last couple years Target's IT dept has completely been transformed. Roles have changed, tools have changed, many new faces are here, and our new CIO actually understands technology and isn't afraid to make decisions. Compared to the previous 5+ years, the last 2 have been a complete turnaround for the better. Target's IT dept is turning back into a place where real Engineers are respected and rewarded and it's...

    Cons

Since the IT org was recently transformed, there are still many people in all positions that still "don't get it" or aren't fully bought into the new way of working. However, I have full trust in our new CIO to steer us on the right path going forward.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of as much legacy dead weight as soon as possible and continue to strive towards a DevOps and Agile culture.
