I worked at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is pretty decent for an entry level retail job. The managers I had were pretty good about helping employees succeed. Our boss really tried to work around the employees schedule outside of work. You get to meet a lot of interesting people. If you have problems with someone, there are multiple ways of reporting it, and I always felt comfortable asking the managers for help. You also have a lot of opportunities to give back to the community.

    Cons

The benefits are nothing to write home about. It can be stressful when it's extremely busy (for an introvert) and boring when it's quiet (for an extrovert). Sometimes it's hard to get hours. Your schedule is never predictable. Getting a promotion is not impossible, but can be difficult.

    Advice to Management

Having the option of flexibility is great, but a little more consistency would also be nice. Also, more leadership training opportunities would be nice.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Works with my college schedule. That is the only reason I'm still here. I am actively looking for a replacement job.

    Cons

Bad management and team lead accountability. I have gotten coached for being 30 minutes late on something my team lead is constantly hours late on, ave they don't even care to notice. Also this puts me even further behind on my own tasks since I have to finish hers. Then I'll possibly get in trouble if I don't finish her or my task.

    Advice to Management

Adjust expectations according to the certain situation. Not just based on the average shifts variables.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

(Depending on your store/team) flexible hours, good environment, opportunity to learn and grow within the company, get to know a great community.

Target could be one of the best places to work for, in the first year it was for me and I wish it still was, or it could be very frustrating

    Cons

(Depending on your store/team) terrible scheduling, very few hours but expect you to be on call, won't allow for growth, won't work with university schedule

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate some of the management at individual stores, talk with team members about their LODs and other leads

I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

they have 15% discount for team members and some great team members (if you are as lucky as i was)

    Cons

roles are not clearly defined. one day you are doing something and the next day they have you doing something else. they also keep adding more functions to your role and no additional pay, no feasible career opportunity even though they tell you there is.

    Advice to Management

work more on trying to motivate your staff.

    I worked at Target full-time

    Pros

    Multiple breaks
Free Food in the Lunch Room
    Lenient Dresscode

    Cons

    Horrible Training.
    Unfair Employee Treatment.
    Bad Management.
    Lack of Empathy.
    No Hours.
    Inconsistent scheduling
Failed to let me know about frequent thieves that come by every day at different times.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees and don't condescend them. Try to understand and relate to them. Also, if you are hiring someone in an area you are familiar that has a history of robbing and stealing. Hire experienced security guards.

    Pros

Team member discount, free food in break room (sometimes), friendly co-workers/guests

    Cons

rude management, lack of training, the hours, & their break schedule

    Advice to Management

If I was manager at Target in Fort Worth, I'd provide a second day of training to cover coupons, price matching, what to do when things go wrong, etc. The training doesn't cover everything. Also, don't be rude to your seasonal employees, you may see them again on the floor as a guest!

I worked at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Generous 401k, great place to get leadership experience, flexibility in schedule, generous pay to start

    Cons

Weekend work and Holidays, continue to cut payroll and increase expectations. Expected to run a store with only 8 people on the schedule at any given time. Difficult to meet demands

    Advice to Management

Understand that your employees are working for just over minimum wage. We have to manage our expectations based on the individuals working there. Be kind to them, it will go a long way!
