I have been working at Target (More than 3 years)

    Pros

flexible schedule, friendly environment, mostly friendly customers, discount is always a plus, HR is very helpful and knowledgable

    Cons

from a cashier standpoint, they encourage growth. From a loss prevention standpoint, they are misleading about trying to help you move up.

    Advice to Management

Be consistent with advancing your employees.

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The environment is very friendly for retail. it is a great job for those who are just starting out in the workforce. The 10% employee discount is a nice perk. Training is all over the store regardless of where you'll end up staying.

    Cons

The Team Leaders (Managers) can overly micro-manage everything you do. This especially happens if your in sales. Stats, Stats, and more Stats! Their prognosis of all your daily tasks involve countless charts, graphs, and surveys with margin errors above the 10 percentiles. I didn't this much analyzation at my previous office jobs which paid 12.50 per hour and up. Which brings up my next point. Compensation! 8.25 per hour and no commission. I do realize this is better than Walmart. Its not that hard to beat Walmart in the employee pay margin. The worst part is hours are not guaranteed even if you have full availability. The health benefits don't exist. Go to Cobra i guess.

    Advice to Management

If you pay your employees more, you'll receive more. Has anyone ever got an incorrect order from McDonald's? Yes? They get paid even less than I do. My point is this: Don't expect 15.00 per hour work load out of a 8.00 per hour employee with diminishing hours. I am fully aware you can't change anything in a feudalistic corporation with its main funds and attention to stock holders. If you want anything to change, please learn to compensate better.

I have been working at Target full-time

    Pros

the company Offers fairly good benefits. some perks that you may need to research to take full advantage of, such as vendor discounts. 6 months management track for those interested in advancement.

    Cons

High turn over, poor work life balance, low pay, inflexible scheduling unless planned well in advance.
frequently drop the ball on daily interactions. Business needs often prioritized over the needs of an employee requesting scheduling accommodations, or change of duties.

    Advice to Management

Be authentic, make better decisions in tough circumstances, and don't be afraid to slow down and get a grip on what you are asking other people to do, before you hustle off in another direction. put yourself in the shoes of those you are directing, if only for a moment while you convey the days strategy.
