I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have a strong emphasis on well-being and provide different resources for team members to enrich their lives; Good pay; Lots of Overtime opportunities

    Cons

Sometimes the team members are confused about the business goals in the building. This is difficult in a retail environment because it is all based on sales, thus the confusion.

    Advice to Management

Honest communication is the key to any cohesive team. Work on communicating with each team member and identifying individual goals.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Full time, set work schedule, the hours are not great on any key but they never change, which is nice.
$20/hour+ for full time team members.
    Friendly atmosphere, team focused.
The work is pretty demanding and Target is a demanding employer, but they are fair.
Vacation time is accrued generously based on hours worked.
10% discount on everything in store always, and occasional bonus employee discounts.

    Cons

Target used to be a terrific employer but over the last two years priorities have clearly shifted. Employees are now liabilities, rather than assets. And fundamentally, the company seems to have made shareholders the priority instead of the customer. Some cost cutting strategies are now normal in retail, but still borderline unethical.
Countless examples such as mass layoffs, pension and benefit time eliminations all have taken place but the most shattering is that full time team members are now being replaced by temporary associates, These temps are required to work full time hours, performing highly physical and skilled labor for below-poverty-line-wages, without any health benefits or vacation time.
Target is at best, "mostly fair" to it's own employees, but the temps are treated like 2nd class citizens, it's eerily reminiscent of pre 1960s America. They do much of the heavy lifting and yet they are disregarded. Temps may not attend our team meetings. They may not stretch with the Target teams they work with. They are not allowed to take break in certain break rooms.
I joined the company as an 18 year old boy. Target's high expectations and formerly high culture have made me a better man.

    Advice to Management

Productivity is sexy, but you'll respect and rely on the experience and knowledge your team members have more than anything.
This works both ways, a leader with experience and job knowledge, will garnish respect from the team by staffing them for success and identifying and removing obstacles . Running your department correctly is the sharpest way to drive performance.

    Pros

THREE days a week and the have a good base pay

    Cons

you have a different boss all the time and they are fresh out of college thinking they can change the world.

    Advice to Management

don't micro manage so much, and get rid of the unproductive employee so that its easier on everyone.

I have been working at Target full-time

    Pros

With the lack of any highly paid manufacturing work in the area at the Target D.C. fills that role. Good benefits with 5% 401k matching. Quarterly raises when you start and so far since it's opening 11 years ago annual raises have been given for cost of living increase.

    Cons

Unless you have ten plus years of experience plan on working one of three shifts:
    A-1: S/U/M 6am-6p
    A-2:S/U/M 6p-6a
    B-2: T/W/R/F 4p-2a
Training is not merit or performance based but rather based on favoritism it seems
Extremely high management (lower level group leader) turnover
Corrective action write-ups are also based on favoritism it seems where as some can get away with 14+ call ins before punishment others only need 8.

    Advice to Management

Ask for updates on who top performers in various attributes are and who is getting advanced training in various functions.
Communication between departments should be more open and even having rotating management contributing to start up announcements. This could be an inbound manager(group leader) telling the warehouse workers what they are doing well at as well as areas that they could better support inbound team members.

Good pay, peers, prepare you for interviewing for other companies.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

    Listen!

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Target is always changing and doing what they have to do to stay relevant and profitable. I have never had to worry about being laid off. The company funds many fun events for team members.

    Cons

The company seems to prefer hiring externals rather than promoting from within for higher level positions. Compensation and benefits are poor-fair. Managers tend to be inexpirienced and manager turn over is high.

    Advice to Management

Consider the benefits that promoting from within could bring the company, employees would be much more invested in the company and turnover would decrease.
