I worked at Target full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great company to work for. Hours are long but Management is appreciative. Great Team environment

    Cons

Limited room for advancement. In logistics specifically very challenging to get out of specific location if you are good at what you do. While i am a part of it, there is a very obvious good ol''boy network.

I worked at Target full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good base salary and good position in market place . Peers are generally good to work with and have strong sense of teamwork

    Cons

Everything is style not substance. You have the look the part and impress senior management in ways that don’t necessarily impact the business

    Advice to Management

Focus on advancing the business and improving it not perpetuating a culture of style

I worked at Target full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, fair work / life balance

    Cons

Insufficient training program leads to a high turnover of GLs, The company utilizes many temps in the shift worker pool so workforce can be inconsistent. Temp agencies are located onsite. It appear that this practice alleviates Target of getting their hands dirty, The indoor environment without windows was depressing. High volume of workers per GL.

    Advice to Management

Training program needs to move in a more logical order, it seemed to jump around a lot. Find a way to bring more sunlight into the building; windows at ground level. Establish formal leadership among the hourly workforce to afford GLs time to manage departments more effectively.

I worked at Target full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits (STD, LTD, Healthcare) and good pay for area.

    Cons

Work Life Balance - 24/7 environment plus an iPhone means no break. At the time, vacation was limited, but I've since heard that time off has increased. (But so has supporting headcount, so still hard to "be away") CYA mentality of senior leadership makes everything have an underlying agenda, and someone always has to fall to the problem performers list. Treat people like people and you'll get the best of everyone without...

    Advice to Management

TO senior leaders - you attract really smart people, but you can't keep them. Treat the field more like HQ - more work share and shared roles, more remote roles so that people have career growth outside of store or distribution management.

I worked at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are zero pros to this company or position.

    Cons

I came into a Group Leader / Operations Manager position at a Target distribution center. This position is not a leadership position; you're a glorified babysitter. As a manager you need to ASK before you have an employee do something. If an employee doesn't want to do something, they will inform your boss or HR. If you like to work for a company who tells lies, is far behind in the technological world, and enjoy...

I worked at Target full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Fast pace distribution center environment with the ability to lead a team of 20-40 team members. Hands on training with the ability to be a leader right out of college.

    Cons

Company lost touch of how to treat their employees. The company used to give back to their employees labeling it Fast, Fun, and Friendly; however, it became a rat race and upper management would push for more offering less.

    Advice to Management

Put your leaders first! Recognize the things they do whether it's big or small. Do not be quick to classify a leader based on the judgement of your peer, get to know the leader and think for yourself.

    Pros

Focus on leadership and career development, team atmosphere, easy to have a large impact on the greater team/market, constantly changing company to stay competitive in the changing retail world, open door culture that generates positive feedback.

    Cons

Easy to get lost in the weeds, career progression can flatline if you lose motivation to keep pushing your personal brand.

    Advice to Management

Keep the development conversation a two-way street and stay open to feedback.
