I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, vacation time, sick days, group huddles, mostly walking, fifteen percent discount, 35 percent on some items, lax dress code.

    Cons

Lots of time on your feet, time scheduling can be an issue due to automated system, other than that everything was a positive experience

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

High pay, they are flexible with time off and as long as you put it in by the reserved date, you will get it. Job is repetitive, and teaches you other sections if need be.

    Cons

Time off is flexible, but scheduling is not very flexible at all, and job can be very physically demanding.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and take into consideration hardworking ones who have been around for a longer time.

I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good people. Everyone is constructive, and supportive.

    Cons

Sometimes scheduled impossible hours, due to management error.

    Advice to Management

    Don't schedule impossible hours.

  4. "Too cliquey and rather unprofessional, but it's retail so what do you expect?"

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There aren't many pros to working at Target. After all, it's a retail environment. It is probably better than many retail environments, though some probably don't have the cons of Target. Generally managers are good about scheduling even if you don't know long in advance what you will be working and that could vary by store.

    Cons

Store culture is very high-school "cliquey" and if you don't fit in with their groups, it doesn't matter how hard you work. Promotions are made based on how good you are at socializing with these high school cliques, no matter how hard you work or your credentials. They have "huddles" every day, which have a very high-school feel to them as well. Managers pull people away from their work to basically give compliments to other employees, which tend to be rather superficial, followed by a joint group clap and "Go Team!" chant. If you spend more time than a manager might like while you're zoning (which is all you do all day in hardlines), making sure everything looks good, you may get reprimanded for taking too long even if it's necessary to ensure straightened shelves. Store discount isn't helpful, because you can't use your own card. You have to sign up for a store RedCard to do so, risking your credit and adding another unnecessary credit card. Overall feeling is very superficial, with managers and employees alike handing out superficial comments and gratitude, none of which sound or seem to really be sincere. With no actions to back up the compliments, and a general lack of caring for the welfare of employees, the superficial nature is supported.

    Advice to Management

Care more about employees' welfare as it can affect how they perform at work. Be less superficial about comments and gratitude and more sincere, and support it with actions that show thanks for employees. Encourage hard work by lessening the cliquey culture and making it more a professional work environment, which I realize is difficult in retail.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Reasonable pay and easy place to work for. Very few issues there with management or customers.

    Cons

Completely erratic hours, no uniform schedule whatsoever.

Can work 5 to 11 one day, 8am to 12pm another, 4am to 11am another, and this happens often. There are few set shifts for part time. You are expected to do anything at any point of the night or day.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working at Target is great for summer or during schooling. They have easily flexible hours which I could change to work around my college courses.

    Cons

There is a clear divide between corporate and some of the managers versus the team members who are most impacted by the choices.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the team members. Some have had excellent ideas which were shut down because" it doesn't work like that."
