I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Typically Friendly Customers. Employers care about teaching you how to do your job well and allowing you the opportunity to progress and/or learn different jobs within the store. $8 start pay, which may have gone up since I worked there. They are good about making sure you get your breaks. Inclusive.

    Cons

Retail can be a nightmare, even at Target. Can end up staying later than close to fix up the store. Can get slammed at registers with no back up. Sometimes managers don't come when you need them which will of course frustrate customers. As a cashier, if you aren't selling Red cards you go down in brownie point rankings very quickly. Poor employee discount and only able to use it when paying for things in cash. All in all - not many significant cons.

    Advice to Management

Have more than one manager running the cashiers at once on busy days so when problems arise there are multiple eyes out to assist quickly and efficiently. Mostly referring to price disputes.

    Pros

    benefits after one year
    10% discount

    Cons

    poorly made schedule
90 day probation period when hired
    management doesn't care
unorganized (doesn't teach you how to do anything, gets mad when you don't know how)

    Advice to Management

take your time doing the schedules, it's only your fault if you schedule 6 people to unload and stock the store.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people I worked with and management were really nice and they pay is decent. You get a 10% employee discount, 15% if you get the red card.

    Cons

They expected you to do a million things in one shift that weren't even technically your job. I was a sales floor team member and they had me constantly going up to the frontline to cashier while expecting me to do pulls from the backroom and keep my area zoned AND work on reshop. Given we were understaffed in many areas of the store, but they really should have worked harder to employ people faster. I was starting school soon anyway so I decided to quit within my 90 days. If it hadn't been for the stressful shifts and the long nights if you were closing I might have stayed. But I doubt it. Retail isn't for everyone.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - HR was extremely polite and cool.
    - The hours were descent
    - Friendly Coworkers

    Cons

    Where do I began?
    - Unrealistic goals for clean ups and sales.
    - LODs talk down to various workers
    - Don't expect to last long if you're a college student.

    Advice to Management

Tell the LODs and Shift Managers to treat employees with respect.

    Pros

Working as a cashier at Target requires little to no skills. The work is easy and the hours are not bad. If you're looking for a little easy income then Target isn't a bad place to work.

    Cons

The work as a cashier is pretty mundane and requires almost no skills. Also, there is a lot of employee turnover. I'm the type of person that likes to foster a relationship with the people that I work with and it was really difficult when there were constantly different employees coming and going. Also, the employees that had worked with the organization were clicky. They were very hesitant to associate with new staff. I'm not saying I wanted it to be a party atmosphere where everyone was mingling and ignoring their work, but it kind of felt like being the new weird kid in school the entire time I worked there

    Advice to Management

I worked at Target for several months, but I met and/or spoke to the Store Manager twice. Once when he interviewed me and another time to say hello in passing. The same applied to the Asst. managers. I spent most of my time reporting to my immediate manager.

    Pros

The store is very clean. The one thing I believe separates Target from stores like Wal Mart are the cleanliness of the store and the Customer Service that you receive.
The staff is very friendly and so is the management team.
The management listens to problems and will do their best to help solve them.

    Cons

During the holiday season it can be very busy and a lot is expected from you. There is a lot to keep up with and not very much time to do it.

    Advice to Management

The leadership should look harder at which employees they are keeping after the holiday season to go from a seasonal employee to a permanent employee.
