I worked at Target full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I started working at Target in high school and continued for 10 years. I held numerous different positions throughout the years and finally left recently once I realized that I was really over working in retail. I have no (or okay very few) complaints as Target as an employer. I have met some of my closest friends and all kinds of people from different walks of life through working at Target and I will always be glad to have had that experience. I had many opportunities to cross train in different areas and I feel that I was overall compensated well for the type of work that I did and that the benefits were pretty good.

    Cons

I wish that Target would promote from within more for their salaried manager (ETL) positions. I have known many people over the years (both with and without college degrees) who would be much more qualified for these positions than the fresh-out-of-college-22-year-old types that they like to hire. It is possible to promote from within to these roles but it is more difficult than it should be in my opinion.

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay rate is higher than most retail stores, and they do plan to have the base pay at 15/hr by 2020z

    Cons

Management tends to come off in a vaguely threatening way. They make sure you’re aware of the 90-day probationary period, which makes everyone feel very paranoid when beginning to work there.
They have a very restricted number of hours to give out, so one week you may have plenty of hours and the next you might have only a few.
Being sick means nothing to management, even in food areas.
The employee discount is okay, but not great . 10% on the whole store, an extra 10 on healthy food and sports ware.

    Advice to Management

Stop making your employees feel like they’re constantly in trouble. You’re losing good employees because they feel like they’ve done something horrible when really they’re just doing their jobs. Also, hire more people and stop restricting your hours so much.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The best thing about target is that they were very flexible when it came to the schedule. Especially if you were a student. They also didn’t care if you had piercings or tattoos, which I really appreciated.

    Cons

Selling red cards. Part of the job was trying to get people to sign up for a Target credit card or debit card. Even if you tried hard it was sometimes very difficult to get people to sign up. management really pushed you to sell those cards, and at times it just wouldn’t happen.

    Pros

Friendly management and coworkers, reasonable work-load, easy to learn and remember, then train new team members!

    Cons

The only con I can think of is that Target doesn't allow their team members to accept tips, but the pay is good enough that it isnt a big deal.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked with a lot of great people that I am still friends with. And I got to know some great guests some I am still friends with

    Cons

We can't keep help! The benefits use to be great but they dropped everyone who works under 32 hrs. Many team members want 40 and they cut their hrs and then we need help and we spend time calling people we cut and if they say no they are treated poorly the next time they work. And a lot of the newer management have to people skills with the employees I heard a STL tell an upset employee go a head call the hot line because it will just come back to him

    Advice to Management

Go back to fast fun and friendly! Treat your employees like people show you value your team!
