I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, reasonable shifts, schedule posted 2 weeks ahead of time

    Cons

Not many people open up creating a dreadful feeling of isolation, often times I would be zoning between 30-40 isles with minimum social interaction which just made every day feel miserable. Being asked how are you and being forced to say good is a torturous experience.

    Advice to Management

Positive reinforcement is better than negative reinforcement, nobody can work hard when they're being reminded about how poorly they're doing when compared to others that have worked there for years.

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay rate is higher than most retail stores, and they do plan to have the base pay at 15/hr by 2020z

    Cons

Management tends to come off in a vaguely threatening way. They make sure you’re aware of the 90-day probationary period, which makes everyone feel very paranoid when beginning to work there.
They have a very restricted number of hours to give out, so one week you may have plenty of hours and the next you might have only a few.
Being sick means nothing to management, even in food areas.
The employee discount is okay, but not great . 10% on the whole store, an extra 10 on healthy food and sports ware.

    Advice to Management

Stop making your employees feel like they’re constantly in trouble. You’re losing good employees because they feel like they’ve done something horrible when really they’re just doing their jobs. Also, hire more people and stop restricting your hours so much.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great place to gain initial leadership skills and to work flexible and very random hours.

    Cons

Not a place to grow unless your path is wanting to be a team leader or store team leader. Being an HR Team Member my desire was to grow my HR skills and that was not an option that was supported after basic skills for the position were learned.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your bottom line better.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The best thing about target is that they were very flexible when it came to the schedule. Especially if you were a student. They also didn’t care if you had piercings or tattoos, which I really appreciated.

    Cons

Selling red cards. Part of the job was trying to get people to sign up for a Target credit card or debit card. Even if you tried hard it was sometimes very difficult to get people to sign up. management really pushed you to sell those cards, and at times it just wouldn’t happen.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun, friendly environment. Discount on merchandise, holiday pay.

    Cons

Rotating schedule, late hours, open holidays.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your ETLs remember that the people believe them are humans with lives and families outside of Target

    Pros

    They offer decent pay
    40 hours a week
Medical and other benefits are good
As long as you wear red and khaki you are allowed freedom to express yourself otherwise with your appearance

    Cons

Work environment is less professional and more social navigation
Management is not very supportive of the supervisor under them
    Respect
Management is a constant revolving door

    Advice to Management

Be involved and supportive of management under you. Respect your team and expect them to share the same respect.
