I worked at Target (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The Medical coverage was awesome, & had all the benefits that a good H.R. dept should have. Easy opportunities for advancement or lateral moves to different departments.

    Cons

As a supervisor, I was very uncomfortable with pressuring the cashier's to reach their credit app goal. If they didn't reach goal, that affected their reviews.

    Advice to Management

Relax on the credit card apps, I've heard it's been less of a focus these past years, but a discount retailer is not a bank. The cashiers should be cashiers, not credit card salespeople.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to work to gain experience in retail. Very flexible with your class schedule.

    Cons

Might just be a con for me but working weekends, missing holidays and inconsistent schedule but that comes with the retail territory.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They provide excellent discounts on products you buy from the company. They have a range of options from paying for school to help with adoption services.

    Cons

They pretend to care about the employees but do not really take any action that would back that up. I have not seen an evaluation yet, I know my duties but I have no idea how I will or in what form I might be evaluated. I have no idea how to get a raise or if they even give them.

    Advice to Management

Work together with your people instead of them just working for you. Improve your training programs and implement standardized review and scorecard procedures.

I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Established brand/business
Great place to learn management on a store and corporate level

    Cons

    Long hours
    Corporate politics
"Development" roles are merely management strategies to retain talent longer. Once your 2 development roles are complete and you are in good standing with your STL and district business partners (approx. 3 years total), you wait in a long line of other team members who have been waiting for 3+ years before you for either the STL route or Corporate path.

    Advice to Management

Hire the right leaders/executives to lead store teams and business partners.

    Pros

    Cons

pay is low, but to be expected. working holidays. management quality can vary a lot which determines stress and how much work need to be done.

    Advice to Management

keep up with team huddles and honest feedback from team.

    Advice to Management

Team leads should be reviewed indirectly.
