I have been working at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the managers actually care enough to ask you how you are doing and not just tell you what they want you to do.

    Cons

Some times you're treated bad and no one cares enough to do any thing about it.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to actually listen to your employees.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The managers are very cool and they are great people as well. I really like them in general. Your co-workers are also awesome people. Moreover, they are very cool too. The 10% employee discount is very nice. It really adds up.

    Cons

The pay is extremely low especially considering how much work is expected of you. Target pays more than the minimum but they really squeeze every penny they can out of you. You have to work so hard there that it is downright uncomfortable. Turnover is ridiculous there. You are constantly seeing new faces which is not nice either. The managers leave constantly as well which is extremely disconcerting.

    Advice to Management

The working conditions need to be made more humane. Target and I know retail in general is really being hurt by the horrendous levels of turnover that are occurring. In short, you can not expect the work to be done the way it needs to be done and the way management wants it to be done with the current levels of staffing. Target needs to hire more employees, offer the employees that they do have more hours and Target needs to treat its employees better. I really think the company would benefit from having a full-time workforce. I know that a full-time workforce is very expensive but I think Target could successfully pass along the costs to its guests. I say the because if the store was effectively staffed the shopping experience that could offered would be such that Target would have enough guests and the guests' basket sizes would be large enough to effectively support a full-time staff as well as the profit margins that the shareholders are looking for. I also know that their has been a tremendous business style drift at Target. The store used to offer mid-level brands at affordable prices. While Target was doing the aforementioned, Target was doing much better. Since, Target drifted from that business strategy, the company has not been doing well. Target's primary business strategy is now trying to compete directly with Walmart and Amazon on the basis of price which is not a good idea.
