I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, great management. Great health care benefits.

    Cons

If only the corp would realize that low level workers could be making a bit more than they do now.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Credit union. Most equipment is modern

    Cons

Lack of training, hostile leads, no structure.
Illusion of diversity and employee focus quickly crumbles as the tone deaf reality of pandering becomes evident. Left and right hand do not talk. "Standard operating procedure" is different to every lead

    Advice to Management

Reign in attitudes, dont support insular management styles. Your staff is here to support the business- not you.

I worked at Target full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy job if you like walking around and organizing things your while shift. Or if you like asking the same question over and over again

    Cons

Job is the most repetitive one I've ever worked at. Most employees only do enough just so they won't get yelled at.

    Advice to Management

    Get new people

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Regular reviews of your work equals potential of higher pay, most people are nice, employee discount

    Cons

Management is cruel, often belittling others both to their faces and to their backs, high learning curve to completing an escalating amount of tasks

    Advice to Management

I have no advice, since much of the problems are about the culture of the management to begin with. I've heard demeaning and inhumane comments among my management, both about employees and other managers, and then I'm told we're all a team. My store has a good face, high ratings, regular comp, often the most volunteer work in the district. However, I've repeatedly heard my manager say all our teams are no good, that he's glad other team members and managers are gone (even ones I know he's "friends" with, and we are going under a big staff overhaul). Today, he threatens my team by saying he'll fire whoever he has to, and in the same breath, urges team unity, but also said we should snitch on each other (and yes, he literally said "snitch"). I have heard him talk to vendors about how much he doesn't like his job, so I feel like we're being punished for his misery. This is only the tip of the iceberg for management issues, mind you - there are affairs happening, and one case of emotional abuse between managers dating. Target's culture falls apart around the desperation for hitting a profit margin in the age of Amazon, choosing to overload their workers and not clean up their personal affairs. Let's face it: we're just gay-friendly Wal-Mart.

I worked at Target (More than a year)

    Pros

My co-workers were the only bright spot.

    Cons

The management was a mess and seemed completely out of touch with its workforce. The upper leadership of my store was intolerable, often having unrealistic expectations and promising promotions and the like without following through. My experience at Target was just your average retail experience...soul-deadening and repetitive.

    Advice to Management

    transparency and realistic expectations.

    Pros

Exciting fast paced work. Ability to take full ownership of your business

    Cons

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Target is the best company I could have asked for as far as my occupation. Inclusive, opportunities for development, fast-paced, never boring, etc.

    Cons

The only downside is having to work on or around most major holidays. The only one that is a bit frustrating but necessary is Black friday beginning on Thanksgiving evening.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing and don't forget to adhere to your core roles as they are so vitally important.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The is a possibility for advancement if you work hard (and are lucky), but don't bank on it. The pay is competitive compared to other retail stores with annual raises. Options for decent health benefits for full-timers. From time-to-time, you'll be treated to free food in the break-room.

    Cons

Most promotions you apply for will end up being filled by people either fresh out of college or recruited from another company. The raises are unimpressive and the wage limits aren't very high. The culture has shifted in the last several years from "fast, fun, and friendly" to "managing productivity and payroll". ETL's delegate all or most of their work to the Team Leaders resulting in TL's having way too much on their plate to handle and nowhere near enough team members to accomplish tasks. Team Leaders will find that every day they feel like they're drowning in work while ETL's sit at Starbucks/ in the office or walk around the floor and in the end, Team Leaders will take the fault when the store fails.

    Advice to Management

    Hire from within.
Reward your best employees with good raises so they want to stay.
