I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Couldn't be happier with my career with Target!

    Cons

As with all retail working weekends and holidays is a drawback, but it is a small price to pay to have a job you enjoy.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked at Target while in college. It was a great job with competitive pay, fun co-workers and a good work ethic.

    Cons

I felt for the managers. It may be run differently back then but it seemed a lot was asked if them as far as hours and responsibilities. I remember thinking it would be a hard job to have while having a family.

    Advice to Management

I’m not sure I have any...I think my cons are just part of the life of retail work.

I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get a discount. Some of the supervisors are amazing. Target has a nice atmosphere. They do community service projects.

    Cons

-When I worked at Target, starbucks had just been built. I think they should've trained the team leaders about starbucks operations. All the baristas were new to target and starbucks. When something went wrong no one could help us. We would get scolded. We would get scolded by leaders who couldn't last two seconds in starbuck. They had a manager from another starbucks train us. She was suppose to be there for two weeks. She stopped coming, because she said it was crazy what they had us doing. You don't get overtime either.

I worked at Target as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great Pay!
    Time goes by quickly.
You work with some excellent people.

    Cons

    Employees tend to form cliques.
I found management to be insensitive toward employees with disabilities.
I was not given the proper resources to fully maximize my internship.

    Advice to Management

    Give the intern more direction.

    Pros

10% discounts and management was willing to talk you, listen and take action! They were also willing to work with students who had classes.

    Cons

Terrible pay, the customer is always right, but don't make your workers feel like crap for following your rules!

    Advice to Management

Yearly increases were a joke for non management positions. if you want people to cover breaks in special areas, you should pay them the higher (.35) wage.

    Pros

If it's just for seasonal work, it's not bad - schedule availability is respected with some exceptions (Black Friday and Christmas Eve especially) and the mood is generally upbeat. Team members get a 10% discount while employed.

    Cons

Leadership positions go to those who aren't good at leading and apparently receive no additional training specific to leaders; there's a lot of talk about "team" but there are games played with some employees being treated as favorites and coachings for non-favorites; cashiers are pressured excessively to get red cards. Once past the 4th quarter crush, hours are cut way back, to the point of tasks going undone because there isn't enough time. That leads to signage not being put up when areas are re-set, sloppy merchandise displays because no one puts them right again after a day of being shopped, back stock piling up in the back room because no one puts it away. While there is a lot of opportunity for cross-training, there's practically no opportunity for moving up. Workers are regularly scheduled outside their availability; those who want lots of hours (and are good workers!) don't get them and those who want only limited hours get scheduled for more.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people at the bottom; we're the ones who see our fellow team members chatting amongst themselves instead of working, not picking up their trash on flow, dealing with improperly stocked shelves. The store I work in has become sloppier in the few years I've worked there; no one has time to straighten and do re-shop properly so things are often put away in the wrong places. Some shelves need to be cleaned - with paper towel and spray cleaner. But if anyone takes the time to do things right and straighten an especially messy shelf or clean up the soda that apparently got spilled and then dried on a shelf, we get griped at for not being fast enough. Staff morale is low and the occasional "reward" of pizza or whatever isn't going to fix that. But as long as the numbers are right and scores are green, everything is great.

I worked at Target part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Assisting great guest is a reward in itself, getting to know some of the guest is also something that is interesting.

    Cons

So many chiefs to to few Indians in the corporation as a whole. Not everyone seems to be on the same page for goal achievements.
