I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with a team that you built, great benefits, corporate sets you up for success when it comes to the day to day operational duties.

    Cons

High turnover rate. Burn out is bound to happen. Bad management. Work every other weekend and depending on your boss, you are on call at all times.

    Advice to Management

Hire better management and ensure store morale is good.

  4. "My job at target was largely repetitive, as retail is, and very focused on corporate goals."

I worked at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Part time work came with a lot of flexibility in hours, especially for someone in school. There was also a lot of opportunity to cross-train elsewhere in the store. I worked cashiering, guest service, and photo lab pretty frequently and enjoyed the variety.

    Cons

Cashiers get a lot of pressure to "perform," meaning ridiculously quick transactions and constantly pushing the Target credit and debit cards. These are often prioritized because they're major ways that store success is measured.

    Advice to Management

More focus on being a pleasant person to interact with would be nice, rather than being quick and impersonal by rushing the transactions and pushing Target cards very heavily.

    Pros

Its a job and over all not too bad.

    Cons

Rude customers. Management can become quite dissatisfied if you don't push "Red Cards". Hours are inconstant but that is true of most retail.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get a paycheck. That's literally about it.

    Cons

They micromanage EVERY LAST THING. You have practically zero chances to get a raise, and the starting pay even for people who have experience is absolute crap.

    Advice to Management

PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES BETTER! Pay employees a livable wage. 8 bucks an hour is crap for the amount of work we do.

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are great, easy to get along with. Team environment where everyone helps each other. Meeting guests who care for the Target brand.

    Cons

Management likes to keep you in one spot. Pay does not equate to the tasks team members have to do. (ex. zoning, re-shop, going up for back-up), Having to ask for red cards when no one wants them. Long time to build personal holiday hours.

    Advice to Management

Promote team members based on how good of a worker they are. Set realistic expectations for team members instead of grilling them when something cannot get done at the end of the night if closing (ex. zoning). Have Team Leaders and/or ETLs update their departments on new products, when shipments come and when specific products are sold out.

    Pros

Good team members and ability to rise in the company if you kiss up enough and to the right people!

    Cons

I am a Team Lead, the company expects us to do more with less and still expects us to maintain standards! Give us more payroll so we can do our job
