I have been working at Target

    Pros

My last job was 'toxic' not just by the co-workers but also management and (single) employee responsibilities. I also had a breakout on my neck that wouldn't heal from the constant shaving, and I had a very arrogant, tight-fisted manager. Target hired me almost right away and technically 'wanted' me so I was grateful since I quit my last job before applying here (not necessarily a smart idea in general). I'm allowed to...

    Cons

I am claustrophobic and get a bit overwhelmed/nervous when my area gets overcrowded, but it's not as bad since I don't split the department with several different people anymore, and the flow team doesn't come to my area when finishing their respective areas since I come in about 2 or 3 hours after they usually come in (my manager does respect the fact that I am claustrophobic and have sensitive nerves so he directs them...

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye on your hardlines team and encourage them to do a thorough job! I invented "zoning sticks," a metal rod with a pointed tip and wooden handle used to pull stuff forward, and I made enough for each section of the store so the hardlines team can use them. It's not perfect, but it does a great job at pulling rows of merchandise forward particularly cylindrical or squared. I account two people using it which is...

I have been working at Target part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Co-workers are nice, some of them have great work ethic, team leads are nice and are approachable and willing to work with you, there's finally enough technology to go around for the more productive workers to do their job without delay, the Team Leads/HR often provide food/snacks in the break room, the unload/freight process is a little more organized than before, and there's crossover potential to work in other sections...

    Cons

Hour cutting for my colleagues is as bad as ever, poor communication between ETL/STL and the lower positioned Team Leads at times, many co-workers don't put their best foot forward with the overall workload and often times lack good communication, poor department zoning, new team members are under-trained, the raises and benefits are nothing to write home about, the big corporal changes during 4th quarter compromised...

    Advice to Management

Stop making it seem like everything is fine to our district manager and allow him to intervene when change is necessary. If more change is to be made company-wide, let's be more prepared for it instead of nose-diving into it. Stop hiring lazy transfers and allow proper training for newcomers. Don't cut the hours of the employees who really give it their all. Schedule better for preparation of "guest rushes." Better raises...

I worked at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible schedule, better than average benefits for a big box retailer.

    Cons

Very hard to be promoted from within it is difficult to maintian a good head about you when they are constantly hiring kids right out of college with no job expereince to be Executive Team Leaders.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your lower team members on visits. Quit the forced recognition, the VIBE, and make TL meeting worth while. We fill out a survery every year and it seems that no one listens.

    I worked at Target

    Pros

Fair pay. Decent discount when combined w red card. Lots of ways get info on web programs. Good benefits. Cleanest and best organized stockroom I have ever seen.

    Cons

All the real talent in target is on the sales floor. Zero opportunity for these individuals to advance without a college degree. Degree requirement also creates a structure where well paid salaried employees w zero retail experience preside over and take credit for high performing underpaid sales floor employees. They literally just walked in circles around the store and told us to hurry up. The structure and degree requirements...

    Advice to Management

Remove the degree requirement for the salaried tier. This would allow great employees to continue to be great in your stores.

    I worked at Target

    Pros

Decent pay for the type of job

    Cons

I still have no idea what was expected of me. I was never late, never absent, accepted call-ins on my days off, and treated every customer respectfully and graciously. As I neared 90 days on the job I was let go with no explanation of anything I had done wrong. That's just not right. I still have no idea what I did wrong to be terminated. I've never been fired from a job in my life.

    Advice to Management

You really owe it to any employee, even a probationary one, some kind of input on what they could/should have done better to keep their job. Otherwise, it seems very arbitrary and leaves people to wonder what is really going on. My entire extended family is upset over how I was treated, and won't shop at Target. If I did something wrong, just tell me.
