I worked at Target part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

the flexible schedule allows you to tailor your work availability to additional schedules. as a student it was nice to work around weird class schedules.

    Cons

Management made getting shifts covered difficult.

    Advice to Management

Provide more flexible hires, specifically for covering shifts that people need help getting covered so Sales Staff isnt short or over worked.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There was always stuff to do, you knew what was expected of you, the people you worked with were nice, the hourly wage was good ($12.50/hr)

    Cons

I wasn't given many hours, the boss could be demanding (yelling at everyone to work faster), you have to get up early (shifts began at 6 am, sometimes as early as 5 am or 4 am), little to no opportunity for advancement or more hours, they would often ask people to stay later than their scheduled time

    Advice to Management

If everybody is working hard, cut them some slack. Also, learn how to schedule properly, I shouldn't be getting asked to stay later than my scheduled shift 50-60% of the time.

"Distribution Center...position eliminated, sad to go"

I worked at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This is for distribution center only, store environments are completely different.
Compensation...They do an annual "wage survey" to evaluate the compensation offered to employees like the ones they have and hire to make sure they offer competitive compensation, and make adjustments across the board every year.
Training...Their expectations of employees and the soft-skills training they offer to help employees get there get great results. Because of this training and experience, I am better trained, ready and qualified than peers from other backgrounds in subsequent jobs.
Great start for recent college grads to get some relevant management and operations experience under their belts.

    Cons

Even at such a big company with such great intentions, each person's job experience is only as good as their immediate supervisor. There is a steady stream of new, inexperienced and untrained managers flowing through the building who often disrupt operations and disrespect long-time, high performing reports.
At this point in Target's history, every innovation, every advancement, every idea comes from the top down, and input from the bottom is not only unwanted, but stifled. This has not always been the case, and I hope in the future the pendulum swings back the other way.

    Advice to Management

To senior management, and hiring teams...your low-level managers need more. Perhaps a co-management training period with an experienced manager.
To all managers, especially entry level...your production teams want to do a great job they can be proud of. They have an amazing knowledge base in much more than moving boxes. Value them, their contributions, and their ideas. That's all they have ever wanted, and another free meal will not make up for the loss of morale over they way they are treated.

I have been working at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy pay. Decent hours. Not a hard job. Target is a nice place to shop so it’s fun being around stuff you would consider buying.

    Cons

Management sucks. They don’t do any of the work to share the result. They just take the credit. People get away with more than they should. When you ask for help or bring a problem to light you are given nothing in return.

    Advice to Management

Be present. Help and stop wasting time on your own agenda.
