I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Employee Discount, every employee has a basic 5% discount. Using the Target RED Card it's another 5%, having the card more than a year...with some items can bring the savings to 10%.

    Cons

    Lack of job training, management.

    Advice to Management

When I was hired, I was told that I was part-time. Just before the Christmas season, it was a hard adjustment to start with because there was lack of job training and plenty of supervisors were stuck up and didn't really want to help. I was let go just two weeks before Christmas, as they told me I was seasonal. I've had experience with that sort of work before, so I didn't let them walk all over me or order me around with no good reason. I now think that was another reason why they let me go, they couldn't control me or influence my decisions.

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, fun team, opportunity for growth, multiple volunteer events, work isn’t hard to do, 8 hour shifts, can pick up shifts in other departments.

    Cons

No consistent schedule, build sick days and vacation slowly, management don’t only schedule you based on what benefits them and not you

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, member discounts at lots of places, nice coworkers, ability to switch shifts/pickup extra shifts, give away shifts, ability to move up within the company if you work for it.

    Cons

Bi-weekly pay, must wait 1 year before eligible for health insurance, no overtime allowed, some team leaders are great, some are a bit too pushy, occasionally understaffed.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive wages for new tms, ability to cross-train, development days, opportunity for long term growth, 10% discount, leadership always finds cute ways to show tm appreciation, great resources, easily able to hold a tm accountable, constantly coming up with new ideas and company is heading in a great direction, flex stores are more community based, catered food for holidays, fulltime benefits start at 32 hrs, pto and holiday pay is great, leaders are only required to close one night a week, leaders get every other weekend off and one week day.

    Cons

Computer systems are always down when you need them, never enough working equipment. Ive worked with horrible leaders and great leaders..unfortunately, most leaders only care about sales & store visits so you won't be noticed unless you work in an department that contribute tremendously to Target's sales growth. Areas like Starbucks & FoodAve are a complete black hole in most stores. It would be nice to include these in Target store visits every once and a while. You can have the highest guest connection scores, capture rate, guest check and profit margins in the group but you won't be able to excel unless you step out onto the floor & are noticed by your dm/rm/hrbp. It really all depends on your leadership team..but working with bad leadership has helped shape myself into a great leader over the years. Only other con is there is always a fight for hours as they are stolen for other departments. Hours are scarce especially from January to April.

    Advice to Management

Try your hardest to keep team morale up, partner with your peers more often and help them succeed or even learn from them, HOLD YOUR TEAM ACCOUNTABLE, & if your leaders are doing a great job recognize them! Or at the least acknowledge their existence!
