I have been working at Target part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They work around your school schedule and are willing to train their employees.

A very positive and friendly work environment where everyone has your back and are willing to help you.

    Cons

Most employees can't progress in the company because it requires far more workers than managers.

It can be hard to get enough hours.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with the other managers regarding issues and problems to avoid mixed messages and provide clear guidance for all employees.

I worked at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

they did send me a paycheck and their backrooms are very organized

    Cons

    - had to wake up at 3a.m (be there at 4a.m.) as a flow team member
    - I only ever got around 15 hours a week and there was no labor for more hours.
    - they were constantly trying to adjust things that already worked (sometimes to make them less efficient).
    - For the two months i worked there I heard of 4 people getting injured on the job (maybe due to these new adjustments)

    Advice to Management

don't hire more people than you can give hours
    don't make people wake up at 3 a.m. 4-5 days a week for a $200 paycheck
have some sort of ability to advance in the company (currently zero!)
teach management to quit trying to fix what is not broken and stick to a routine
DON'T BE FAKE! I talked to the managers at the Layton, UT branch multiple times and they never even knew my name after 2 months of working there

I worked at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun atmosphere and team members are really good. Pretty good pay and room to move up to better positions.

    Cons

Management was not good. They kept replacing studs with duds. That's when I got out.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! You're not God because you make more money than the regular team members.

I worked at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy job, laid back attitude,, good break schedule makes time go by quicker.

    Cons

Lazy people know the job will get done no matter their effort. Poor management, and low incentive to work hard. Only chance for one raise a year and it is not reliant on work ethic. You can work harder than others but if they have more time on the job they will receive a larger raise

    Advice to Management

Have team leads expect more of their workers. Consider incentive for working hard. I.E for flow consider a small raise if store is completed and clean before store opens

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-AWESOME team member culture and spirit around the stores. I have traveled to a half dozen of the stores in the Utah/Idaho region and the team "spirit" (with lack of a better term) is phenomenal for the most part.
    - Lots of volunteer opportunities for those of you that are interested in making an impact in the community.
    - Competitive pay
    - If you put yourself out there, you WILL be rewarded.
    - WONDERFUL team leaders and executives that will, if you put yourself out there, help you with development.
    - DISCOUNT!
    - An awesome place to use as a stepping stone and develop those skills needed in this competitive job market.

    Cons

Schedule, Schedule, but it is retail after all. Lots of holidays spent leaving early or entirely away from your family.

POLITICS is the name of the game when it comes to promoting sometimes. It's not the execs on the store level, once you have their support (which can be hard enough to gain) but you better be a GREAT BS'er for the group leader.

Benefits, at least from what I can tell in my region, are questionable and insurance policies can fluctuate.

Depending on your area/position, your hours as a team member can be cut year to year, or you could gain hours. Obviously, during the holidays most team members are gaining hours, so word to the wise; work your ass of and prove yourself if you would like hours.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that the Target hierarchy is fully understood for entry-level team members. It appears that team members feel lost when it comes to knowing what to do to move up and get frustrated. It is hard to understand how Target works from a CORPORATE point of view without asking tons of questions...not everyone is like this and need a little helping hand and those team members could be great in bigger positions if given a little direction. Don't make your team members afraid of the "jet", don't show YOUR fear of the "jet", motivate them and don't make them so incredibly worried about how walks go, but motivate them to do the best job they can and be proud with the provided effort. Also, bring the APS position back.

I worked at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Management tries hard to ensure good environment
    Consistent work schedule

    Cons

No effective way to move up
    Pay
Punished if things in life come up where you can't come in for a shift.

    Advice to Management

See out opportunities to really talk with the team members about their life outside of target. Sometimes things in life take priority over target.

    Cons

Unless you are of the faith don't even apply. The company only promotes from the Church. In order to advance you have to be Mormsn.

    Advice to Management

    Lead with integrity
