I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of hours available to work. Fun job finding all the merchandise for online orders.

    Cons

Very early shift times at 4am. Being 'cross trained' in other departments isn't always a good thing because you will be given shifts to work in the Backroom, or Flow Team (unloading trucks, stocking).

    Advice to Management

Try to make work more fun, as the work is endless and there is so much to do all the time.

    Great people
    dress code is flexible
overall a great place to work

    Cons

new distribution SVP only hiring from outside so promotion opportunities limited at this time
only a few metropolitan locations - most in small rural communities

    Advice to Management

Don't be so worried about Amazon that you lose the culture of the company. Target's base guest has a very specific expectation of the shopping experience that Amazon cannot provide. If in your quest to compete you lose that focus the company will fail - you cannot out Amazon, Amazon.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great with growth opportunity
    - Training for Executive role or higher is excellent
    - Give leadership roles tools to excel in their career
    - Flexible with schedule and opportunities to work in other areas of the company
    - Awesome recruiting events that brings in great talent

    Cons

    - At times can feel like a popularity contest
    - Insane expectations with tight payroll
    - In the state of California, it is extremely difficult to fire team members and team leaders that are not meeting expectations
    - During the fall and holiday season there is no such thing as work life balance. You will live at the store. Unsure about the DC side of operations but I'm sure they work a lot of hours as well. The company does anything it can to get merchandise to the stores.

    Advice to Management

    - Anytime there is a visit the stores blow up there payroll, so why have these so often? Every time we had one it led to us being in the hole for the month and took us forever to recovery. After the visit we would always have to cut back on payroll to make up for what we spent and this lead to the stores being under staffed. I just felt like there was too much of a emphasis on trying to impress the higher ups and give an impression of the store because of these visits. It affects the bottom line and hurts store operations, and takes away from what really matters most, guest service and sales!!!

Co workers. Fast paced. Easy to get time off. Calling off isn't a huge issue after your 90 days. Culture.

    Cons

They don't promote within so you can get a new boss who knows nothing about how things work.
