I worked at Target as an intern

    Pros

Everyone you meet is super friendly and welcoming. They love it when you ask questions, all the execs love working for Target. Great pay as an intern 18.50/hour. They treat you like a real OM, you get to led the team later in the internship.

    Cons

Target is going through a changing phase. Restructuring their entire supply chain. So things are changing everyday. Makes it a bit confusing when you get different information from different OMs. Communication and processes vary from morning and night shifts.

    Advice to Management

Meet regularly to develop consistent processes.

They have a Credit Union that you can join no matter your financial status.

It is way too hot at the check stands.

    Advice to Management

Have fans set up for the cashiers.

I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Before the FDC closed everyone carried their own weight. All employees were great to work with. Management ensured that no one was allowed to coast and let others pick up the work.

    Cons

After being moved to the RDC this was not the case.

    Advice to Management

Ensure all employees are doing their work, stop playing favorites to the lazy employees.

I have been working at Target part-time

    Pros

Immediate supervisors (LoD) are great fun to work with and are very supportive. Coworkers provide a friendly environment.

    Cons

Was promised 30-35 hours a week when hired, but rarely get more than 20-25.
Hours, raises, promotions are based on how many credit cards you sell per week.
The whole company revolves around "Red card" sales, and job satisfaction suffers for it.
Minimum wage and random hours, so not recommended for a career path; more of just a side/temporary job.

    Advice to Management

Don't focus so much on Red Cards; focus more on customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very good benefits and development from upper management. Opportunity to advance and decent salary.

    Cons

Long work days, 50+ hour weeks for salaried leaders. Compensation doesn't reflect your work at times.

I worked at Target part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly environment and Management. Flexible hours for those with family's or school

    Cons

Pay is sub-par and almost all positions are part-time and under 28hrs a week to keep from having to provide benefits.

    Advice to Management

Hire full time employees for smaller positions

I worked at Target part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Met some really good people.

    Cons

Team leads did nothing but sit in offices. They never helped when it got busy. Asked to get cross trained in other areas but they always ignored. I always closed and eventually got burnt out.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the team members about chances to move up. Alternate their schedules; don't always make them open or close. When the store gets busy help out with reshop, zoning, and backing up! Don't just disappear into the offices.

I worked at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast pace distribution center environment with the ability to lead a team of 20-40 team members. Hands on training with the ability to be a leader right out of college.

    Cons

Company lost touch of how to treat their employees. The company used to give back to their employees labeling it Fast, Fun, and Friendly; however, it became a rat race and upper management would push for more offering less.

    Advice to Management

Put your leaders first! Recognize the things they do whether it's big or small. Do not be quick to classify a leader based on the judgement of your peer, get to know the leader and think for yourself.
