I have been working at Target full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can get management experience at a young age

    Cons

Work every other weekend, and minimum one night a week

    Advice to Management

Have schedule benefits when you gain tenture with the company. New managers and managers that have been with the company for 30 years have the same schedule. There is no benefit to staying for a long period of time.

I worked at Target as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was interesting to rotate through all the management positions.

    Cons

No one really cared about the intern. You're the only intern in the store. Did not teach the valuable loyalty skills of a corporate management position. The "leaders" did not like the district manager and it really showed. It was hard to believe that the management followed the chain of command because they always went against what the district manager said. There was a disconnect with management because the district manager only came into the store once and never followed up. How do you expect people to respect you if you don't follow up? Everyone was rejecting change. Taught me all the wrong lessons. I honestly did not feel like anyone wanted me there. They kept telling me "what you put in is what you get out" but whenever I wanted to learn from someone or tag along to observe things they would be annoyed that they have to deal with "the intern". No one made me feel important. Everyone always gave me good feedback and told me that I was doing great all the time and that they would for sure offer me a position because "everyone who is an intern gets an offer" and the last day of my internship they didn't offer me anything. No feedback, no help, I felt alone and they made me to dumb tasks everyday instead of learning how to manage.

    Advice to Management

Don't make your interns feel lost and unimportant.

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Set schedule
A little bit of freedom to merchandise // if you know your job.
You have a great team in soft lines that you get to work train and work with.

    Cons

Most days you are a glorified stocker.
Spend your days picking up clothing up off the FLOOR.
We should not "Be in Charge of Fan Central"
The expectations out way the time allotted.
Not enough people planned for VMGs & POGs.
    Workload unrealistic.
You do not have a Team any more, and Peers - don't step up to help.

    Advice to Management

You need to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to utilize the VM. We are not Stock people, We don't work nights and weekend, We are not LODs. Need to be more appreciated and MERCHANDISE daily. Training the SL team just as important. VMs should be Executives like in many other reatiers. Stop treating us like glorified stocke people. If you hired correctly they have 10+ years.
