    Fire lazy people and keep the ones who can do their own work by themselves

    I have been working at Target full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Pay is comparable to other companies. Every once in a while you get a good Upper Management leader but they usually quit fairly quickly.

    Cons

    If Leadership wants you out, they will scrutinize every detail of your job and document it until they "Performance You Out." This is standard practice for all Team Members.

    Little Work/Life Balance.

    Very little Hours are given to your department making it hard to write schedules for your team.

    High Turnover

    Very little support from Upper Management when Employees complain.

    Lack of knowledge by upper management of department routines and importance.

    Advice to Management

    To District Managers: retrain your ETLs and STLs regardless of their experience. Require them to train in their respective departments for longer than 1 day/1 week.

    ETLs: support your TL and be more proactive.

    I have been working at Target (More than a year)

    Pros

    I work as a cashier and this is a pretty easy job. The people (co-workers and customers) are pleasant about 90% of the time. Very little training, but it only takes a few days to get the hang of even the most complicated transactions.

    Cons

    RED CARDS! Constantly bugged about red cards

    Advice to Management

    The customers roll their eyes now when asked about red cards. If they want one, they will get one. If they don't, they don't.

    Pros

    no drive thru. 30 minute lunch

    Cons

    continually changing a broken system doesn't allow it to be fixed. kept throwing away good ideas for improvement and instead would revamp and over complicate the whole system. work flow system has too many steps and is not flexible enough to be efficient.

    Advice to Management

    stop cutting tech hours and spend more time doing hands on work so you know what changes need to be made instead of just making uninformed changes. every store operates differently, its difficult to implement the same system everywhere.let the people that know the job do the job the way it needs to be done. give advancement from within instead of holding back your experienced free-thinking personnel and bringing in fresh grads who have zero experience and zero respect

    Pros

    Very strong communication among all Employees and the running of the store as a single unit. Emphasis on employee friendly scheduling. A positive atmosphere pushed throughout the store through and through with multiple manager and employee team meetings throughout the day.

    Cons

    Very high turnover rate. With a very strong emphasis on keeping the service areas stocked and neat it can create stress among the managers and team members when there is a shortage of personell.

    Advice to Management

    Execute more of an emphasis on utilizing the labor given to effectively cover the store's needs. Get to know each department so it makes it easier when it is required for a manager to help a team member or a guest.

    Pros

    The management was great at motivating the workers. People worked together as part of a team.

    Cons

    Retail is exhausting in general, no matter the company. Target is a good place to start in retail, however, it wasn't for me.

    Advice to Management

    There could be a greater degree of work life balance and more team building exercises may help people feel more connected.
